Strategy to obtain US Amex

Does anyone know how to apply for the Platinum Charge with a referal? There are referals around with 150K SUB but require SSN. When I apply through GT only receive 80K points.

I have an upgrade offer for 100K but want to apply for it first then take the upgrade offer in the future to receive SUB twice.

If you manage to get approved and don't mind juggling a few extra cards, apply for two $0 (not the $50) employee cards using this link: Offer Incentive | American Express US

Each employee card earns 15K MR after $4K spend. It stacks with the sign-up bonus. So put $2K on your main card, $4K on employee 1's card, $4K on employee 2's card & you'll earn 180KMR in total.

You can put yourself down as an employee.
Just applied for 2 employee cards - perfect!

Can’t guarantee that it works but you can try logging into your US Amex account first then opening the referral. I don’t know if it works with referrals as I haven’t actually tried. However, that’s how I got my second Amex card, the Gold from Resy without an ITIN or SSN then.

Unfortunately I don’t have a 150k referral lol, just 125k.

Let me give that a try and I will report back.

I'm happy to share the 150k referal if anyone wants it.

I am considering going to the US just to open bank accounts with Citi, Wells, chase, etc

Has anybody done this and am I crazy?

I have opened a Amex and C1 checking account, but everything else seems impossible to open from Australia. The main reason would be to increase likelihood of getting credit cards approved

Interesting with planetexpress. I currently use MyUS but the mailing address for everything is US global mail so they can scan everything for me
I’ve suggested this to my P2 on more than one occasion.

She said I need to get my head checked 🤣

"Holiday in NY?" ;)

On another topic, does anyone know existing aspire card holders get to double dip the $250 resort credit + $200 resort credit for 2H 2023? The T&Cs said the following:

Hilton Honors Aspire Card Members approved prior to October 19, 2023 will receive up to $250 in statement credits per membership year for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts through December 31, 2023. Starting January 1, 2024, Card Members can receive up to a total of $200 in statement credits semi-annually (January through June; and July through December), for up to $400 back annually for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts on their Card Account.

Based on the text it looks you don't get the double dip but I'm aware that the airline credit allowed double dip?

I read it 2 different credits. $250 for this year and then starting next year, you can get the 2x resort credits

Don't know if there are many HSBC US credit card holders here, but just in case I wanted to let you know that they've devaluated their rewards program. Most transfers used to be 1:1 and now it's 1.25:1 :-(

HI, Thanks for the heads up. Is this effective from now or is there an effective date? I'd need to bring forward my redemption plans otherwise. I was hoping to leave my points there until I needed them.

It’s effective now. I don’t recall receiving an email about this, I think in Europe they would have to give you 60-days notice before rolling out these changes

This was also confirmed on chat by the Amex rep
I also read through the thread on FlyerTalk and no one has even tried it yet as everyone reads it the same.

I am in Bora Bora in July, so I will call them in June to try and get a $200 voucher - who knows if it will work

Some hotels allow you to prepay your flexible booking (not prepaid - does not qualify for $250/$200 Aspire credit) e.g. If you have a 2 day stay with each costing US 250; They will charge your card for day 1 and can you pay day 2 when you arrive at the property

Planetexpress will accept letters from USPS for me since I've authorised them to but I don't think I've ever received anything from Amex that wasn't couriered. Chase has been ok most of the time.

Yep. I wonder when that change happened since earlier this year I had QF wine post as Qantas Mascot like flights.
Planet express accepts usps for me without special authorization .

It has already taken effect -with no notice . Surprise considering they have also just sent their periodic newsletter by email !no mention !
Emirates and tap are still 1:1 . Seems to be some sort of 50 % bonus on miles and smiles.
