Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm aware US MR (membership reward) points have much more value per dollar compared to AUS MR points. From memory a long time ago someone said you can transfer AUS MR points to US MR points for 1-1 ratio. Is this true?
No it mirrors the forex rate on the actual day of transfer .lead time of approx 10 days .but you still come out ahead as you can redeem in US at 1:1 .

Back in June, I did overseas MR transfer to my US Amex account at 1000000 Aus points to 700k US MR points, similar exchange rate. You can only do once a year.

Digressing as this post is rebirthed... has anyone linked an MR card via Wells Fargo? And in regards to transferring Aus pts to US points, would I be correct in guessing the US based points would then only be applicable if booking flights from the US?

No you can transfer to any of their partners some which are not avl here and book for to and from any destination available .

Another option for points transfer is Amex Canada card, as the exchange rate would be much more favorable. The main drawback is there are fewer transfer partners for Canadian cards.

More difficult to get approved in Canada for a non resident . Also their cards don’t offer forex txn free option .

Fair point about the international FX fee, but in terms of non-resident, can't you still apply via global transfer without the need for local SSN?

I tried . Seemed more difficult . Ssn is applicable only for US . They asked for more evidence of residence . I applied and was approved for a hsbc premier MasterCard . Great card .

Interesting. I have a Canadian SIN, I wonder whether they will approve it on that basis. Might worth a try if my Amex AU point balance gets high enough.

Many, if not most, US checking accounts can send a check to anyone in the US through the Internet banking platform. You put in the amount, recipient and address, and they mail to the person.

Don’t worry with the late fee, they won’t charge you. I paid the tax 2 months late, they just sent me a letter this year + a cheque of $3.40, just say tax refund. I have no idea why and I just deposited to my Citi account.

Hi all, I've held the Hilton Aspire for about 20 months now. I have been using the following method to pay my statement balance via the following method:
1. Top up Revolut account with AUD
2. Convert AUD to USD
3. Transfer USD to my Citibank AU Global Currency USD account
4. From Citi USD account, pay to Amex US

I used my card a fair bit in the first 12 months or so, then didn't use much in the last 6 months. My previous Revolut to Citi transfer was in Feb 2022 with no issues. I recently did a transfer again a few days ago and the transaction failed. On Revolut app chat, the CS said on Revolut end it's successful, but the beneficiary (Citibank) bank rejected it.

Anyone can advise or suggest other easy/cheap-ish method to pay off the US statement balance? I don't have a US bank account and don't have plans to go there anytime soon.
FYI Citi changed their SWIFT code around about that time, make sure you are using the new (NAB) one.

Called Amex after the 10 day period to request the Amex Green card and my wife's additional card to be sent to Sydney. They were more than happy to ship it through DHL express.
Just curious what your said to them, I waited the 10 days and was told they can’t send cards overseas they only offered to resend to my us address.

the global transfer team then transferred me to the dept that does replacement cards and they kept putting me on hold and eventually the line cut out, when I tried calling back they had closed for the day!

Tell them you are visiting family overseas for the next few months.
