Strategy to obtain US Amex

Personally for me, it works as long as I am on the premium yearly plan which lets you keep the number for a year.

Got a voicemail from them at 3am and then spoke to them with the Textnow phone number as soon as I woke up.
Thanks for the heads up. Was the call part of the application process ? Or it was about something else ?

Hi DC3,

I am planning to apply for the Aspire card.
Does AMEX call you as part of the application process ? Hence the need for a US number ?
As part of the application process, they have called me and left a voicemail. I called back and they seemed to know who I was based on my (TextNow) US number. They sent me a text code which I read back to them. They also asked for address confirmation, which I provided (being the MyUS address).

That was about it. Nothing about getting a bank on the phone, as some have reported.

Also noting that the Aspire gives you instant Diamond status, which counts towards the 10 years required for Lifetime if you want to go for it (has to be full calendar years though). Also need to satisfy 1000 nights at Hilton hotels or 2 million base points.

Spending on purchases with Hilton CCs still count towards the base points requirement until the end of 2022.

Thank you for the reply. As long as they don't ask for a bank statement / utility bill showing a US address, i am all good. Now i need to decide whether to use a friend's US home address or my own MyUS address.

Thank you for the helpful replies : ) Will check out the Textnow app and paid services.

Does TextNow work fine for you with Amex?

There are also mixed reports about people not being able to receive/reply to texts from Amex
Verification texts don’t come through on the free service . However verification calls from verified by visa etc do come through .

I have done that and I still wasn't getting verification texts. I ended up getting physical T-Mobile SIM and using it with WiFi calling in an extra iPhone I've kept just for it. Shame as the TextNow solution is quite convenient and eloquent - as an aside, I have been receiving telemarketing calls on my TextNow number recently.

I can receive my Hilton Honors Aspire card verification texts on TextNow.
Same here. I had no TextNow problems with receiving verification texts from Amex, regarding the opening of two cards, one six months ago and the other two years ago.

How are people’s experience with Daniel Hagen when applying for an ITIN? Wondering if it’s secure to send on a copy of passport?

Also, with respect to TextNow, my experience has been that to receive the verification codes, you need to be on the yearly paid plan?

I didn’t overthink the emailing of a copy of the passport. Anyway, I email a copy to myself for overseas travel, so as I have all of the details if urgent replacement should ever be needed, in addition to keeping a copy in my carry-on. Yes, I’m sure that some will caution against emailing. Normal email is not secure but someone needs more than a copy of my passport page (which I probably provide to every overseas hotel on check-in, and they photocopy it anyway) in order to steal my identity.

I pay the annual TextNow fee, also.

And Daniel got back to you after the MLK Day holiday?

Thanks for the insight.

Yeah I thought so, I managed to get GV working so hopefully that works moving forward. I’ll need to update the number on my Amex account too.

Yes he has thanks. Hence my question around passport details.
