Strategy to obtain US Amex

The $99 credit has been appearing over the past several days. Certainly since 11th. The separate matter is the AA miles. Some will receive the miles, but it seems that others (including me) may not, based on the ordering date.

If I find the FT link about this, I will post it.

Edit: My guess is that I will not get the AA miles, due to (unknowingly) applying too late (on 29th)
I just logged into my AA account to discover that the Motley Fool 7400 miles has posted this week. This was unexpected, based on applying on 29th January, a day after the rules changed. 😀

So, for anyone who is in the same situation, it may be worth checking your AA account.

Has anyone successfully changed their account address online to another US address without further verification? After I receive my card I need to change my US address to my new US address which includes the premium +mail subscription. Ideally I'd like to avoid any kind of address verification if possible.

Once you setup your online account you can change to another US address without further verification, which I had to do when I moved from premium + mail to just the normal MyUS account. Just try not to make a habit of changing your address on a monthly basis and you will be fine, you can even change it to an Australian address without issue.

UPDATE
I just received an email today from MYUS saying, "Good news! Your package is in your suite". 🤔 🤔 🤔
Guess what the package is, guys........... My original Surpass card 😁 Appearantly, they are already preparing it for sending. Almost 5 weeks since the approval. I'm gonna let them post it. Quite happy for not sending it back to Amex.

O ye of little faith. 😀

I know😉, Not sure luck or what, but it seems anything is possible with MYUS. Apparently, it has gone straight to my suite. Even with Aspire, I had to inquire a couple of times to get it into my suite🙄, not sure where the delay is. probably at MYUS, I guess

Not sure this has been discussed before but did anyone try to add any US Amex for Sniip? Are the payments treated as a cash advance? I'm using Rental Rewards to pay my Rents with Aspire, and no issue. It would be cheaper to use Sniip with a flat 1.5% fee.

yep as effectively, we are 1:1 (the more expensive cards have had this largely neutralised as they earn twice as many points so the effective SQ earn rate is effectively the same as it was pre-deval). This might work out to 6 AU MR for 2 SQ (if my maths is correct). If the UK is a "larger" market than AU - reckon if it flows through to the US, only a matter of time before SQ and other carriers enforce a price rise on Amex AU. I hope I'm wrong.
I am not sure this could be the case.

Amex has pumped alot of money into the airlines at a agreed rate e.g. Delta miles, Hilton etc. They bought billions of points by paying in the millions. Its like Amex hedged the rates (contracts) with its partners when it bought these miles. I don't think Amex will like to piss its customers (us) just to please its partners. Do note, once these contracts expire between Amex and its partners, they would need to sign new contract rates. I think then we will see the changes.

The only spanner in the works is what currency exchange Amex bought these points in their contracts, the UK pound has depreciated against the US dollar. XE - The World's Trusted Currency Authority: Money Transfers & Free Exchange Rate Tools.

Only if you follow the US airlines, Delta has devalued its points but the transfer rate between Delta and Amex is the same.

I have used Sniip on US Amex Bonvoy business and it is treated as a normal transaction. Amex themselves promote sniip since there was a offer in AU amex to get bonus MR points to transfer $50 using Amex AU

Is anyone having issues login in or creating an account on US Starbucks app
Fun fact on the US Starbucks app - you can pay at Starbucks AU stores using it, and the exchange rate they use is the current mid-market (XE) rate. And you can still scan your Starbucks AU barcode to collect stars on your Starbucks AU account.

Enjoying the Aspire card that I got via GT early in the year.
My next card will likely be the Amex green card once I have moved from Florida to California...
For those who have used GT from Australia twice - how long did you leave between applications?

Hmm. I dont have a US bank account. Im guessing everyone else (who doesnt have a US bank acc) is paying $7.5 USD via TW to pay for their US CCs?
You don't need a US account. This is how I do it:
  1. Open a Revolut account for fee free conversion AUD->USD
  2. Open a Citibank AU global currency account (not Citibank Plus), then add US currency to it from Citibank Online Banking
  3. Grab the account details (your US currency GCA will have it unique BSB and Account Number details)
  4. Convert your AUD to USD in Revolut
  5. Use Revolut to send a payment to SWIFT code CITIAU2X, with your unique US GCA account number (do not include BSB) - make sure you specify to send in USD, not AUD
  6. Use International Payments in Citibank online banking to send a payment using the Wire details provided by your US bank, and specify that fees should be paid by your account. If possible, use Fedwire details and the payment should arrive same day (Fedwire is the US version of Faster Payments - it clears pretty much instantly)

Doesn't CITI (using your US account) -> Amex Wire Transfer/Fedwire have a fee to it?

When you used GT to apply for it, did you have to create another US account to get the second card? Or did they allow you to put the second card into your US card by confirming the card number?

Not from Citi, in my experience. Just to be clear, I don't mean a Citi US account, I mean a Citibank Australia Global Currency Account denominated in USD.
Yes but the DP some people were having is that the Fedwire transfer above $500USD from Citi Aus global (USD holding) accts that there was a $10USD fee.

No, I didn't have to do anything. It was automatically added to my existing US account once approved.
