Strategy to obtain US Amex

Once you’re Premier in Australia, you’re Premier for other countries too as long as you keep meeting the requirements for Premier in Australia so don’t need to qualify in the US.
When I recently applied for my 2nd Amex card they wanted to call my bank to confirm the address, how would that work with HSBC Premier? Can you change address to US from Australia at some stage?

They have my Australian address as it matches everything else but you might be able to change it. I’d float it with your HSBC RM. My RM is in NY and he’s keen to help but unfortunately there are things he can’t do (like loans against Aussie property to get around ‘responsible lending’). Will probably depend on how keen your RM is.

How did you apply for the second Amex card? Was it via GT or just your US Amex profile? I am thinking about signing up for a second card and want to avoid the address verification if possible.

Tricky really as my attempt at 2nd Amex card resulted in please call to verify and they wanted to call the bank for address purposes. So cones down to HSBC allowing the address change.

So my attempt was a bit of a failure but a learning process I suppose.

Logged on using US Amex login and applied for Amex Green card using my new ITIN number and got the dreaded please call to verify some details. The rep wanted to do a 3 way call with my bank to verify my address (it was a new address using PostScanMail) so not sure if that was the reason and as I didn’t have a checking account I had to make an excuse why I would call back later. Had about 10 missed calls from Amex the next few days to my text plus number but never answered as was always between 2am and 5am and was asleep. The letters from Amex appeared today in PostScanMail advising they needed more info to proceed.

Now I have the Capital One checking account I think I will try again with Amex as I can now do what they required.

Also really like the PostScanMail feature, email with mail delivered and picture of the front and then option to forward or open and scan. You can then save the PDF letter and tell them to recycle it.

About 3.8% but I paid by Google pay with a credit card so there were cheaper options.

The rate given was spot on to XE.

The new HSBC premier rule is in effect; I have just signed up for a HSBC account and the live chat said the upgrade process is very easy once the $9k deposit appears in my account, fingers crossed.
Can you transfer in and straight out and still have qualify ?

Confirm it is very easy to change the address AU - US yourself on HSBC website. It will show on your personal profile in a day or two. Monthly statement will also reflect that.

Actually no question of having a US address and changing as one applies as an Aussie resident applying overseas through Premier from the start !

The staff told me it would still qualify, hence why I signed up for it.

However the premier upgrade process is a mess; I called the number on the AU Premier page and they said they will send it to the processing team, but when I follow up today they say they have no record of my request....

Anyone know what number I should call or do I have to visit a HSBC branch?

Branch may take your request and refer you to premier line .do you have this number 1300 301 168?

I got the beach to handle everything. Not sure what happens f they get an influx of new Premier customers as a result of this change how they handle it. I’m sure this change is designed to do just that.

Just got approved for my 2nd US Amex (green card) and you have to hold your nerve and have the information at hand.

Applied online using Amex US login and got the "We need more information" and please call. So I called up and he asks the normal address and phone number questions and then says we can't verify SSN (I used ITIN) so can we call your bank to verify. So we do a 3 way call to Capital One and he asks the same questions and verifies address, phone number and SSN (ITIN) and finally all approved but nerve racking and I have my PostScanMail address up and my ITIN number, textplus number and paranoid so the weather and time in Long Beach haha (smokey and 23 degrees)

Another issue was they couldn't verify my phone number belongs to me but got past that with ITIN verification. I did order that T-mobile sim card as I see this being an issue with Chase and Citi.

For those of us who don't have an ITIN, I guess it would be better to just use GT again to get the second Amex card? Did anyone encounter address verification via GT for a non-business Amex card?

The $560 I paid to get the ITIN number is hopefully now paying off. Big commitment but useful for applications moving forward.

I did, but it recognises my account number not being premier status and just put it back on the normal queue.

Seems like calling is a bit hopeless, I called HSBC again and now they say you have to wait for 6 months before you can be premier under the first criteria of depositing $9000, guess I will go to a local HSBC branch and talk with someone there.

May I ask if your ITIN letter has the same US address to your first US Amex card? Or it doesn’t matter if the ITIN letter has Australian address? Did you need to “add” the ITIN number to the first Amex card after you received the FICO score? I am looking for the best way to get a second Amex. Thanks

Just checked and the address is EIN Express INC 6300 Canoga Ave Suite 1740 Woodland Hills CA 91367. If seems maybe not to matter.

I cannot recall the source but I believe someone mentioned that you cannot add the ITIN to existing Amex card and such I wanted to get a 2nd Amex with ITIN attached and hopefully it will now go through the reporting channels America uses and can move onto Citi and Chase.

All a bit of trial and error and glad we have so many going down this path to work out the best course.

Anyone having issues not receiving Bank OTP using Textnow. When I set it up, I got messages from Amex on my iphone. However, Phone txt messages sent from a Aus mobile works fine
