Strategy to obtain US Amex

Called up and card got approved on the spot. They didn't even need anything. Just confirmed my details were correct and then approved.

Now just the MyUs part left.
Sounds good so far. Just depends on how Amex addresses the Aspire package and how MyUS processes it.

I called Amex and asked them to reissue it to me in Australia as I was ‘traveling’ so not at Florida at the time and they sent it to me in SYD.
Did they reissue the card so easily ? How was their response to changing the address ?

Just been reading over this thread again.

.... I wouldn't be surprised if Amex get an influx of Aussies who are asking to have their cards delivered to Australia because they didn't get delivered to their Florida address, they'll shut the whole thing down which would be a great shame as we're all keeping our accounts in good order and being good citizens

Let’s hope that the Florida address doesn’t start raising red flags with Amex.

Was pretty easy even I was surprised. Was able to get it redirected to work when the courier missed me at home. Told Amex I was currently traveling in Australia.

I haven’t been using my Green card much during the Aussie double points promo. I have a credit from an airline refund. Spoke with online chat they said they could refund to a billing account they have on file (ie my US bank account) but didn’t work said they’ll automatically issue a cheque within 90 days I’d prefer not to risk it with MyUS since it’s for more than $20. Will have to spend it.

Why don’t you update to your Australian address ? I recently received a refund cheque as well . You can then credit it to hsbc via a pic !

I was listening to the frequentmiler podcast and someone asked about changing address to an international address and Stephen Pepper said Amex seems to be fine with doing it but if applying for another card you need the US address.

Most of us seem to only have the one US Amex card so maybe not an issue.

I believe your US credit report will not be created if you don’t use a US address .

I'd prefer to keep my US address on file with Amex - agree want it updating my credit file - I did notice in a month where I used my Green card alot, my credit score fell.

Agree, that's how I would've deposited the refund cheque - pretty cool you can use the app to take a picture to deposit a cheque. Shame MyUS charges so much to send such a small item to Australia. I think it wouldn't be worthwhile getting the $20 refund cheque unless you have other mail coming with it.

For the $20 cheque, deposit to HSBC, is it the HSBC AU account or the HSBC US account that mentioned earlier recently via the HSBC premier method?

Only hsbc us allows you to deposit by pic

Isn’t there a cheaper / free service for them to email pics of mail received ?

They will email a pic of parcels received I believe for extra cost. Mail is not automatically photographed. They can do it but for $US5 per picture - not heaps less than just paying to have it forwarded to Australia and taking a punt.

Finally the card is in my MYUS suite😌, Strange thing is Amex didn't put my suite number at all🤔( seen the pictures from MYUS).Hopefully they will post it soon.Do you guys think DHL Ex is the fastest way to get it here? that's the option I went with...

This might be of interest to some people without a US personal checking account. Called my banker at Chase to make a few enquiries & was informed am able to opening up a personal checking account without being at a branch. Not too sure if this is due to COVID-19 to minimise people’s movements or because SSN is on file.

BofA & Wells Fargo are US banks that let you open a personal checking account with SSN. Might be worth looking into for those who use services as OFX or Transfer Wise to move cash from AU to other accounts around the globe.

It`s most likely because you have an SSN. A lot of banks permit online account opening if you have an SSN/ITIN.

The recent discussions about SSN made me think about my own. I left US many years ago and have since lost track of my SSN. Does anyone know if there is a way to obtain it from OZ? No chance of travel to US until next year due to obvious reasons.
