Strategy to obtain US Amex

My US credit history is too short at this stage i think. Did you apply for your AMEX cards with or without an ITIN ? I got my AMEX Aspire via GT without ITIN back in June 2022, then used ITIN to get the AMEX Everyday card and Cap 1 SavorOne card in March this year. I was wondering if my credit history dates back to June 2022 or it only starts when i first use my ITIN ?

It links with your first card so long as they can match all the details

You can do it over chat from your AU account. Have your US details ready. Yes you can do it once per calendar year and the conversion is roughly the AU/US FX rate
Just trying to transfer all AU MR points to USA Amex and am told that terms state you have to close the AUS amex account... this doesn't sound in line with what ive been reading in this thread?

EDIT: Challenged it and they quickly changed their tune and are allowing it..

I am considering giving up on applying for chase cards and just focus on others. I have applied for 3 amex in the last 3 months and have the a cap1 checking account so thinking venture x. AM I just being impatient?

I’m coming to the conclusion that aside from points hacking, it’s not worth it. I would like to get a C1 Venture though & that’s really for everyday use.

How did you manage to get to ‘yes’ with C1? They wouldn’t open a CC account using myUS address & they closed my checking account for an unspecified reason which doesn’t sound good.

What is the issue with the Chase Cards? From what I have read these are some of the most lucrative cards you can get in terms of bonus points?

If you dont mind me asking which 3 amex cards did you choose and which do you reckon are the best value? I think ill apply for a second Amex GT very soon. I have had my first now for a few weeks and from what ive read people have had success getting another shortly after the first..

I would say impatient. Chase like citi or c1 is more fickle than amex. Churn amex business cards in the mean time. VX1 is just as fickle as Chase so no guarantees there.

How do I add employee cards for bonus points if they don't have a SSN. I have the cards, but I need to confirm a SSN. I have tried a SSN generator but it won't confirm - any help would be appreciated

Yes good idea - maybe I'll just do more biz cards

They can't access my credit file which is very annoying.

I got gold charge, hilton aspire and hilton surpass. I travel a bit and don't mind hilton so I can use the cedits easy. I also have the biz hilton and biz gold.

Thanks. What is the process for being eligible for the AMEX Biz cards, does it require an ITIN specifically? I assume a SSN doesn't make you eligible?

I have a SSN but haven't been in the USA since 2005 so I have no credit history. I recently got my Amex GT green card without supplying my old SSN but I hope that when my FICO score arrives I will be able to use my SSN to apply for other cards.. I am unsure if I should try and now contact Amex and provide my old SSN so that its on file with them and associated with my recent credit history..

Just need an ITIN.

No idea about an SSN that hasn't been used in a while

An ssn is superior to an itin and I think it’s valid for life .

Yeah it is for sure. However without a credit history its useless for applying for credit cards.

I wasn't able to open any US Bank accounts with my SSN either...
Can’t you link it up to an Amex even through gt or a secured card ?

You could even try for an hsbc card through premiere . I believe I linked up my itin thru hsbc after I had the hsbc card for a while

I applied for an AMEX GT using the SSN but I think I done it prematurely i.e. before 3 months of having an AUS Amex and was declined.

I was also declined for a HSBC card using my SSN as well. So Then I tried the GT Amex without the SSN and it worked.

I may try and apply for a second GT now using the SSN. I have had the original Amex GT for a few weeks now. I believe some people have has success when applying after 7 calendar days for a second GT...

What is a secured card?

Secured card - e.g. deposit $300 with the bank, then they give you a card with $300 limit.

What is a secured card?

I think a secured card is the only way. Otherwise you have no way to connecting your SSN to your new address. If anything I have a feeling they'll want to proof that you live at your new address. e.g. bank statement of some sort.

It's also useful for building credit score with your SSN.
Thanks for this. Ill set one up and link it to my old SSN. Where can / should I apply for the secured card? Which bank would you recommend?

I already have bank accounts with HSBC and capital one but my SSN isnt linked to them.

Maybe I should just ask Amex to add my SSN to my existing AMEX GT Credit Card account?
