Paypal is trying something on and I think it is nasty if not even illegal. Ironically it involves my Gold subscription to AFF.

This fell due last week. Paypal requires a bank account and a backup credit account in case of lack of funds. My credit card on file expired at end of November. I did not update it on paypal as I always have sufficient funds.

I processed my AFF subscription through paypal and indeed $50 was withdrawn from my account as expected.

However this is the second email paypal has sent me in the last three days:

I suspect paypal haven't told AFF as indeed my money has been withdrawn by paypal. I trust they have forwarded the money to AFF. I think it is downright shonky (it is a legitimate paypal email).

Just checked - membership has been extended. Then wth are paypal trying to do with that threat.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I don't know enough about paypal Pushka, but that sounds dodgy.

It is a legitimate email from paypal as they reference AFF which I've just paid. I think it is a nasty tactic to get my credit card back on file for a backup. I will get another one in a couple of days and when that occurs I will lodge a dispute with Financial Services Ombudsman as the money has gone from my account.

Ah okay. I only have a credit card on file. No bank account.

Then I might take the bank account off. Probably safer just to have all the protection of the credit card. And then they will stop bugging me. But a little honesty in the emails might be a good thing.

You'll need the bank account if anyone every pays you money and you want to withdraw it...

Dammit, of course. Unless I spend as I receive! Which is clearly what Master TV does! :p

I have ~$100 credit with MrRebates. Think it's time to sign up for that Paypal account I never needed.

Never say never.

I don't think anyone sends him money via PayPal...

And now this from Paypal today:

No wonder I haven't joined. If that's the way valued customers are treated they can get stuffed

I think this is a Paypal issue and nothing to do with AFF

Yes Princess Fiona is absolutely correct - nothing to do with AFF and I am pleased to say I am a member. It is a total stuff up by Paypal.
I originally posted this in the Off Topic area as I didnt want to make it about AFF but as a comment on paypal but it was shifted as a separate thread by the Mods so the title probably looks a little directive towards AFF and not Paypal

I am waaaay ahead in value for the cost of subscription. I think I will be a paid member forever. You should join CaptJCool.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I wonder what would happen if you didn't have a credit card?

I believe PayPal doesn't allow you to sign up for a recurring subscription without a credit card on file, even though it lets you do one-off transactions with only a bank account.
