Can anyone comment if you make two consecutive night bookings (as separate bookings) and check out, then check back in later in the day, do HH class this as two, one night stays or one, two night stay as far as HH status eligiblity goes?

This is classed as one two-night stay, although you may have to chase HHonors for the second night (that is, the night credit and/or the points).

Most loyalty programs are the same: if you check out on a certain day then check in the same day at the same property, this is counted as the same stay.

Cheers for that anat0l :), saves us stuffing around. What if the booking was at different Hiltons? Say HSW and HOTP? I haven't tried (yet) but I think the car rental cos view it oppositely. Can anyone comment on that?

If the properties are different, then for HHonors this is OK. You'll have both classed as separate stays. Done this myself many times.

Just slightly OT.

Remember that you can use the AAA rates if you are an auto club member and that Hilton Premium Club gets you 20% off all 'normal' Hilton rates.

I thought of that when I made a booking in Bangkok and Hua Hin earlier in the night and still went ahead without it.

Is that in combination or either/or?

I searched HPC and only found Hilton Macquarie or HPC in Asia. Is there a local club and if so what are their current membership rates?

It's called Hilton Macquarie in AU/NZ/FJ. It's actually a credit card which affords you the Hilton stay benefits (the annual fee of the card matched the annual subscription of the Hilton Premium Club that the credit card replaced). IIRC the annual fee ("cost of membership") was $295 or so.

What you do is search for AAA rates (if you have an eligible membership), then select them in the booking process. Before you confirm your booking, there should be a space to add comments to your booking. In this space, put your Hilton Macquarie member details. When the hotel processes your confirmed booking, they should be able to adjust your rate to account for the Hilton Macquarie discount. At worse, you can present your Hilton Macquarie card at check in and they should account for the discount there and then.

At least, that was the procedure when I last had the old Hilton Premium Club card; the rules may have changed...

Thanks for that, I did find the Macquarie link, but another CC is not what i really want.

On the two bookings - I suspect as other posters have noted that these will be combined to a single stay..

I have however had one experience where I received two stays for two consecutive nights.
Was at Westin Melbourne.
Booked one night, checked out and paid in the morning and left hotel.
Then business needs forced me to stay,
so rechecked back in under a brand new booking,
and got a separate stay when I checked out.

(obviously requires paying the last minute rates for second night)

I doubt SPG has a separate system, but perhaps consecutive bookings only turn into one stay when the bookings are "cleaned" by the hotel (along with the processes that happen to your booking in preparation for your arrival).

Since you've just checked out of one booking, the hotel can't "link" it to the new booking you made the same day you checked out. Hence, the two stays count as is.

This is all a guess, though.

Everyone agrees but the value is up to the individual. I, like most people here treat the Macquarie Card as a membership card and do not use it to pay for anything much. I think I have run about $200 through it in two years.

The 20% discount and other features are worth it for me.

I know it's the exception rather than the rule, but I had a single Hilton stay earlier this year credited as 2 stays. Had booked online but due to a rate change carrying through, I booked it as 2 separate stays and emailed the hotel to let them know. Didn't even check out or anything, but it came up as 2 stays so you could get lucky.
