I am a new member, so please pardon my ignorance in status runs etc, wish that I new of them earlier. Background: Live in Melb, was QF Platinum, now bronze. Have 500k points with Qantas and 300k with Citibank. Have been reading about status runs and don't understnad them. If someone out there can explain, have tried following these and looked on qantas booking site and can't get to similar costs.:?::(

Welcome to AFF, if you have fallen back to Bronze then the first question to ask is why do you need/want status? If you expect your pattern of flying to pick up again then it may make sense, with that many points your status can be SG very quickly for little cost, especially if doing a JASA!

Welcome mate - I was a
newbie.gif
a month back and geezuz I've learned heaps thanks to the guys & gals round here (including "markis 10/10").

Starting with...
WP = "waanker Platinum"
SC = "scum Gold"
I don't even think they have one for Bronze? ;) Probably FOTWOTSB being "freckle on the wart of the scum Bronze"?? :D
JASA - kinda like NASA but less to do with space travel and more about any seat awards. (the J is business class I assume?)

enjoy and if it all gets too much, just use the "friends and family" points ransfers and I'll give you a random number that looks very similar to my QFF one. :cool:

Am 1k short of lifetime silver and doing a Melb Paris later in the year.

With that number of miles and points you can do a lot. All depending on time as well. Do a search for JASA on this forum and you will see heaps of options. Maybe a Hobart run...

If you aren't flying a whole lot anymore (as suggested by Bronze) then a better use of those points may be 2 x RTW Business awards. These cost 285k ea and can have 5 stopovers.

Sounds like a couple of JASAs TSV-BNE-DRW for 18K+ $100 each way are in order (after taking out points earned), at 140 SC each way for two days and two JASAs as positioning flights would have you across the Gold line for 140K total points!

With the cooler weather in the tropical zones of Townsville and Darwin are now pretty good for anyone wanting to do status runs like markis10 is suggesting.
Do it now as you might not melt in June.

Welcome to AFF...

As others have said, if your down to NB from WP, is it really worth your time (and costs both $$$ and points) in attaining a higher status?

With 800K points at your disposal you'd be able to book J seats for your upcoming flights, and thus get the advantages of SG...

Status runs are most useful in getting you over the line to either retain your current status, or pushing you into the next status... But then of course you actually need to fly a bit to get the benefit of that status...

NB = Nothing Bronze = Bronze....

When did it change to 285k points... =( I hope it doesn't keep moving...

On the actual topic, I'd like to suggest JASA's or FASA's to your destination. You can pick up some cheap ones ex MEL. If you could land yourself a leg on the A380 F... now that's a treat and it'll get you all the status benefits anyway...
