Status Run Spreadsheet access pre-requisites

Still considering they signed up 21 days before the spreadsheet was advertised, it might be safe to assume they didn't sign up just to get access to the spreadsheet. Unless perhaps they have the vision.

Snowballs chance they work for VA then :D:D

Alister,
I see nothing in the PM's that indicate that you were treated rudely.

I haven't asked for access either, and have been here since 2011 and managed to triple my number of posts with this one. :)

Just requaled for Gold with 420 points since Oct-12 flying discount economy, hoping to get to Plat soon, 760 with 39 qualified sectors. 240 to go :)

this could border on discrimination

It doesn't border on discrimination, it damn well is discrimination and THAT IS A GOOD THING.

I get annoyed at people who think the term 'discrimination' is a bad thing. Every day you suffer discrimination, every job interview, every first date, every conversation you are being discriminated.

It is only bad when you are being discriminated against based on those things outlined in the anti-discrimination act (e.g. gender, sexuality, religion)

MarkD, not sure if this was for me? I earned my status if it was, ignore this if it wasn't :)

Sorry, should have made myself clearer...... Attempt at Humour....Status match AFF Status to get access to the file

Thread! Why won't you just die!!!

I think the thread was very valid. A good question was raised and the discussion has resulted in some good points....the only trouble is there is no "fair" way to deal with new members wishing to gain access. No one wants to be an unpaid 100 point ID checker (least of all probably lobo76) so what's the answer? Probably asking new members to be patient and be active forumsters!

I'm a noob-ish and I understand why the spreadsheet access isn't handed out like Christmas presents, but I have a question. Once the new Virgin system settles down and smooths the bugs out, will the spreadsheet have less runs? I'm under the impression that now is the opportune moment to book in runs because of errors in the system that virgin haven't picked up on enabling super cheap fares/runs. Or has there always been a few overlooked awesome deals? As I'm silver on both VA and QF I need to decide which to aim for Gold and I'm leaning towards QF

Wouldn't it be funny if after all this the OP got access to the spreadsheet and it turned out it was cough!

Well lots of renewed interest in the sheet from this thread, just a reminder to anyone asking for access to put your email in the PM. Also note it seems that not all email domains are acceptable to Google. IF yours doesn't work you may need to amke a Gmail account and link it to your real email.

Cheers

On that speculative note I think I need to request access to find out!

Lobo76:

Hey Alister, the reason is to ensure that Virgin employees do not access the information and use it to reduce status run opportunities. As far as I know the mods are fully onboard with this, ;please feel free to raise it with them. As a community resource I'm merely keeping community standards.

My 2c...

This, is where the idea is flawed IMHO. I know for a fact Virgin staff would have zero issues in getting access to this. There are more people around here than most realise that work for VA or have family/friends that work there, and are very regular, long term subscribers to AFF.

I don't believe the 'protected' spreadsheet is the answer, even though the instigator only has the best interests of the community at heart, and the work is no doubt appreciated by those who want to access it.

Forum software does have the ability to set access levels. I feel it would be better to place it somewhere 'restricted' on the site, allowing proven regulars to access it, but that requires much work and intervention from admin.

There's a very good reason all the good runs on AAnother AAirline are kept hush hush, and that's because they do disappear when yelled too loudly. I'm sure the same would happen with VA.

There is no silver bullet, but thinking that VA staff haven't already seen this sheet would be almost 100% incorrect.

I would suggest that statement is in fact 100 percent incorrect, members who have been here since the early years of the decade have likely been consulted ;), coupled with the anecdotal evidence that the runs are still in existence compared to previous runs disappearing in minutes of being published, which in itself demonstrates the sheets value.

Its a private members spreadsheet who grants access as they see fit isnt it? He has the right to deny or grant access to whoever he wants. Life isnt fair get over it move on perhaps even build your own spreadsheets and invite who you like !

I know for a *fact* VA staff have seen it. Clearly, they are different staff to others that may make the decision to close a loophole, but they have seen it.

Cest la vie, maybe it's working because the bull in the china shop syndrome is not evident, a la coupon connection, it's a pity there is a need for such methods given the latitude displayed on the original DJ points plus pay bargains previously. With the current shift towards reduced engagement in social media and the swift action to cutoff value, the only winners from the great VA status match campaign to any extent would appear to be Hilton, going by samples on this board.

Interesting that there are two VA staffers reading this thread as I post, but not surprising ;).
