Hi everyone

I need 460 SC to retain Gold. I have travel booked which will take care of 340 SC's, so need to find another 120 SC.

Any ideas for low cost ways - preferably something I could do over a weekend?

Christina :)

Depending on your points situation there are various options (do a search on here and you'll see a plethora of options) but the two most cost effective ones I can see:

a) JASA your way around from CBR to BNE via SYD
b) LAN J from SYD to AKL and back again.

Option A is going to be least for out-of-pocket dollars wise, but Option B may be easier to do (disregarding the OMG-o'clock departure from AKL to SYD).

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Red e deal to CBR 10, Hobart Express JASA via SYD 100, HBA-MEL Rededeal 10.

Cost around $300 + 16000 points (- points earned on JASA) I think.

As an example, MEL-CBR-SYD-MEL showing at the moment for JASA:

Saturday 2/10/10

Flights 1 and 2 as a multi-city award booking:
Flight # 1: Dep MEL: 8.25am and Arr CBR: 9.30am.
Flight # 2: Dep CBR: 7.00pm and Arr SYD: 7.50pm: 32,000 points + $113.49 earns 80 SCs (total for both)
Flight # 3: Dep SYD: 8.30pm and Arr MEL: 10.05pm: 16,000 points + $52.86 earns 40 SCs

TOTAL 48,000 points + $166.35 earns 120 SCs

With MEL-CBR-SYD as a muti-city booking and SYD-MEL as a seperate booking. All done on the one day.

Depends on whether you have points that you can use, and whether you think that's a good way to use them.

Also get to spend the day in Canberra, if that suits.

Thank you everyone. I had to look up what JASA meant and I see it's about redeeming a business class seat with points? I'm not sure how I get Status Credits for this?

Confused!

Christina :)

Here's some good AFF information on JASAs:

See the AFF thread "QANTAS Business Class Any Seat Award"

I don't have enough posts to quote the link

Here is a sample of what you can do:

Book a business class anyseat award Canberra-Hobart via SYD

Wed 20 Oct 10 09:50 Canberra 10:40 Sydney QF704 6h 20m Qantas Business Checked:
30kg
14:15 Sydney 16:10 Hobart QF1019 3

Cost is $66 + 16000 points, earns 100 status credits and 2000 points, so the real cost is $66 + 14000 points.

Then book you connecting flights:

QF804 MEL-CBR $89 leaves 0720 arrives 0825 earns 10 SC
QF1012 HBA-MEL $89 leaves 1650 arrives 1805 earns 10 SC

Total cost 14000 points, and $246
