Hi All

I've been calculating how many status credits I'll be earning till the SC clock gets reset at the end of July 2015, and looks like I'll be 80 SC short of Platinum (WP).

The options from Sydney (my base location) for the cheapest status runs are to either Perth or Christchurch on JQ (with a Max bundle) @ $780-$820 for 80 SC during the Queen's B'day long weekend. Does anyone have any more economical suggestions? I would like to travel on a weekend prior to 15 June; if it's cheap enough, would like to take the missus along too for a weekend away :)

Look forward to more suggestions....Thanks in advance !!

P.S. - apologies if this is the wrong place for such a thread......

SYD-OOL return in J will get you the 80SC and 5 brownie points* with your wife. It'll be a little more expensive than the PER or CHC runs you've nominated. Depends how you value the brownie points I guess :)

*Check the terms and conditions as brownie points allocated by wives vary.

Wow, that is reasonable @ $550.. I was going to suggest SYD-HBA Flexi, return

To save $ book yourself as Flex and the missus as discount Y, or to save even more put her on the jetstar flight. (kidding)

Should have mentioned that the rates to PER/CHC on JQ are for a return fare. As much as I'd love to fly to OOL and back in J, I cant justify spending ~40% more for the same SC.

Wife says "Forget the J ticket. Buy me a bag instead." No brownie points there :( *sigh*

Oooooooh. Just found this: SYD-MEL-LST-MEL-SYD with QF for $610. That's a steal for 80 SC.

Experts out there - any thoughts ?

It seems like you're happy with that fare for the SC's so go for it. Value is all relative based on the individuals situation.

Personally if I needed 80SC to attain WP for the first time and it was going to cost me $610 I'd go for it but as always YMMV.

So I take it that you are sitting on 1320SC needing the magic 1400 for your initial qualification to WP (as opposed to being on 1120 requalification of 1200)?

A quick 'run' up to Bali would nett you 80SC by adding the plus bundle to a saver or hot fare but while one way fare can sometimes be as low as AUD99.00 one way you need to look at your particular unique situation which is wanting to travel around the long weekend in June 5th to 7th.

Using those dates a JQ starter fare outbound would be AUD429.00 plus bundle of $45.00 then inbound AUD324.00 plus 45.00 so total fare and taxes for one pax is AUD843.00 return. If you want checked luggage it would be $34.00 each way for 20kg.

Same dates SYD/HNL/SYD would be AUD1,013.00 return for airfares taxes and plus bundle added. If you want checked bags add $39.00 each way. That would get you 90SC for the round trip.

Should have mentioned that the rates to PER/CHC on JQ are for a return fare. As much as I'd love to fly to OOL and back in J, I cant justify spending ~40% more for the same SC.

Well instead of the bag you could get SWMBO a two headed jumper as a souvenir - they really do have these. Not sure if it's a gimmick or there's a real need for them.

Have you tried the QF SYDi J lounge?
If yes, then forget my idea, but if not, try the EK metal QF flight number, SYD - CHC, even if you travel flexY return, that will be 40 x 2 = 80.
OR one way J, will be 80 and coming back in flexY is 40 = 120, or 80 + discY of 25 = 105.
Flying across might to NZ might not be cheap, but it would be a nice thing to do, ***you probably have done this many times though, if not do it... as they say in the Adidas ad, (Just do it).***
I have done the QF SYDi J lounge several times, can't complain, much better than waiting in general population downstairs.
