Hi,

I've booked a flight from Brisbane > Auckland (QF125/15) via QF FF points. I thought I was entitled for status point for the flight but I was given the below reply from Qantas CS. Does this sound right? What award flights I need to book in order to entitle for status point credit?

I'm unable to credit your account with points for the travel in question, as travel booked through a loyalty scheme doesn't qualify. Points can only be accrued for paid travel on regular scheduled flights not on award bookings.

Classic Awards are a limited number of awards at a set rate available on each flight (in theory), where as using any seat awards you can use points to book any seat available but often at a higher cost, having said that there are opportunities to book such seats cheaper than at classic levels owing to some routes creating quirks in the system!

What date are you booked for? If you haven't flown yet you could possibly refund the Classic award ticket (nil points earn) & rebook on an Any Seat award which will earn points however if you have to wait for the points to be recredited to your account there is no guarantee a) the seat you cancel with go back into inventory & b) no guarantee you would be able to grab it so you could end up with no booking.

If you had sufficient points you could book the new ASA ticket & secure the seat before refunding the Classic Award.
