Hey all,

I am likely to lose my Velocity Platinum status in February after having it for over ten years. I was going to book a few flights to keep it, but I think my loyalty has gone. I am wondering if any airlines are currently offering a status match for Virgin customers?

Think Vietnam Airlines offers a paid match for Sky team.

AFAIK, no, but I reckon that given Virgin's recent changes it would be a shrewd move for Qantas to do this.

They probably already have without lifting a finger. Velocity has done all the work for them.

The biggest 'Own Goal' ever for Virgin, all these changes in 2025.

Qantas will be laughing their heads off.

The clear No #2 player in a 2 horse market, actively driving a large chunk of Elites to Qantas defies belief.

In an BOOMING stock market for the past 6 months, this stock slipped under $3 today. Like a Led Zeppelin.

Those devoted blinkered souls who bought into this company at over $3.70 will be licking their wounds already. 20% down already, and the way overdue market 'correction we had to have' is still yet to hit.

The market must read these boards! :D

Without question, just about every airline and frequent flyer programme I belong, has hit the FF hard. It would appear there are just to many of them and a cull is required! However VA as a domestic carrier mostly needs to be very careful. They can lose business and those who go to them by choice are now thinking very carefully. To maintain Platinum is really difficult. I will again this year but looking at my travel desires for 2026 to "fit in" with VA is just not going to happen. They are poor for overseas travel and still leave a sour taste in mouth regarding lack of lounges for international. Not to choose seats at a click of a button for partner airlines is also a turn off for me (except Air New Zealand where it works fine with ANZ PNR. The VA domestic lounges remain cheap school canteen food offerings and this really needs to be improved.
It's not just the market that is looking at VA performance!

For comparison here's QANTAS over the same period.
