Hello, new to this and 2nd question of the day...

So, I am Silver and I currently have 470 SCs. My summary thing says to get gold I need another 230 SCs by 31 May 2013.

I am flying from MEL to LHR via HKG on Cathay tomorrow return one week later and I have asked advice and been told I will earn either 240 or 280 SCs, depending on who I ask. Either way that should get me the gold status. Does anyone know how long this will take to come through as I have another trip coming up and would like to use the lounge :o)

thanks everyone

I assume you provided information on the fare class as well when you sought advice about the SCs? Anyway it looks like you're flying J class so there shouldn't be any issues in qualifying for Gold...

Ooh no, I'm flying PE? I did tell them that when I asked advice and got the conflicting advice (240/280) it's a full fare PE though not a discounted one.

If in Discount Y you will earn 140SCs
If in Full Economy (Just Y) you will earn 280 SCs (this is unlikely as very few fares are available in this bucket)
If in Premium Economy 280 SCs
In Business 560 SCs
In First 840 SCs

Cathay flights normally post within a week

So the numbers will work. And taking into account that Cathay takes one week to post - approximately how long will it take Qantas to 'process' that my status has changed and send me a new card??

SCs count in the membership year that the flight was taken, not when they post. So if your SCs don't post before 31 May, and they don't process you in the appropriate status level, contact the QFF service centre to get the SCs credited properly and the correct status recognised.

In fact, if the SCs don't post by 31st, give them a call anyway. I haven't been in this situation myself (and others may correct me), but I expect that they will put your correct status in 'the system', so that with your current card and proper status in 'the system' you should be OK for lounge access (as long as its QF lounge; others may be more tricky.)

I must apologise for causing unnecessary panic 1 day before your flight as I didn't get a chance to calculate the SCs before I posted... To redeem myself, here's some useful info (in case you don't already know):New T2 customer check-in counter zone system : Melbourne Airport.

I was also going to check if the inbound aircraft from HKG which will operate your flight was going to arrive MEL on time, but not sure which of the 3 you'll be on. You should have been subscribed to the notiFLY alerts from CX?notiFLY International Flight Messaging Updates - Cathay Pacific

Your status credits will post on the first Tuesday after your flight and any subsequent flight after posting, your new status will be on your boarding pass which is your license to enter the relevant lounges. You won't need your gold card.
