Status credits on Delta comfort plus

Hi guys,

I’m heading to New York and Israel in a few months and looking to maximise my status credits earn. I’m travelling with my brother and he pools both points and credits to me. I came across some fairly reasonable fares from Sydney to New York via LA with Delta and then some direct return tickets to Tel Aviv from New York. Here’s where I’m a little confused. There is an option for comfort plus which isn’t premium economy by any standard but it offers a little extra leg room and recline. I’m not sure if my calculations are correct but it appears that on this ticket SYD to LAX would earn 120 credits and LAX to JFK would earn 60 credits. Seems quite high considering a ticket only a couple hundred cheaper earns a third of that. A return to TLV from JFK appears to earn 120 credits each way as well. Adding it all up I’d end up with 1200 credits including my brothers credits pooled to my account. Has anyone flown with Delta and am I calculating this correctly or have I had a few to many johnnie walkers?

I flew domestic US comfort+ a couple of years ago and it did book as a W fare so Premium economy.
I think I've convinced myself that international long haul is the correct table to use for all delta flights.

I did the exact same thing last year, booked Sydney to LAX as comfort plus, it showed up in google flights as Premium economy but only for about 200 more than standard economy and it was W fare netting 120 status points each way.

Thanks of the comments guys. Seems to be much better value than what Virgin offers on their own planes. Doubt it will be a comfortable flight but at least it will re-qualify me and I should collect a nice stack of points as well.

The best thing about Comfort+ is the PE status credits, hands down. Even when you pay to upgrade after purchasing Main Cabin (Comfort+ seats were not available at the time of booking), Delta re-ticket into W fare bucket and you get the full PE status credits.

Yes, you can request to waitlist for an upgrade on delta.com online or, if not granted, upgrade to available C+ seating on check-in.

keep in mind that if you have another person on your booking and they are not VA Gold or Platinum, then you will not get the C+

C+ is not that much more in most cases than standard economy, so my suggestions is to book it for the better Status credits

Buy it and lock it in, I reckon. The SC hauls are good, earlier this year I had SLC-EWR delivering 60, EWR-MSP 45 and MSP-LAX 60. That's some good earning.

lol That's my reasoning for booking First/business, not much more/lock it in. One of the recent flights booked first was US$20 more.

I'm flying SYD-LAX in discount economy on Delta metal (albeit, Virgin codeshare) for work. I don't care too much about economy vs comfort+, but 80 extra status credits for ~$200 is a bargain if this is legit - I'd heard that the paid comfort+ upgrade just swaps your seat but not your fare class.

you have to book it when booking the tickets, i did this flight last year

Now that I think of it, it may be an anomaly - that was the leg that I had to make the retroactive claim with Velocity after I was re-accommodated on AA. I emailed them my itinerary and boarding pass, so maybe they just manually credited it as W, when Delta would have just credited it at M.

There seemed to be a mixed message regarding the SC earned on a paid upgrade from Main to Comfort+. Have I did called Delta office in Australia and the rep said the ticket will be re-validated and the new class will be W.

Has anyone succesfully earned a full W SC on (paid) upgrade fare?
