Received this email this morning:

There's never been a better time to switch to 100% Australian-owned Red Energy:
  • Earn 20 bonus Status Credits when you switch your electricity to a Qantas Red Saver plan. Switch your gas for an additional 10 bonus Status Credits.* Limited time only, must switch by 10 January 2021.
  • Plus, you'll also earn up to 15,000 bonus Qantas Points for switching and 2 points per dollar spent on every bill you pay on time.^
Take advantage of this offer and you could be on track for exciting Qantas rewards or even the next membership tier.

Difficult to earn SCs this year (recently had to cancel a trip to Perth planned for next month which would have earned me 64 SCs) so this might be worth considering for 30 SCs and points. Not sure how competitive Red Energy is though.

If anyone's considering signing up, don't forget to check out the Red Energy referral thread also.

YMMV as charges are largely dependent on location and wholesale provider, but I switched electricity and gas from Alinta to Red Energy in metro Sydney last year and found them quite competitive - especially when factoring in the sign-on bonus, points for spend, referral promos and Amex acceptance. This was after the gov's own energy comparison tool suggested Alinta was the cheapest option in 2017.

My gas bill stayed steady (very small increase on daily connection charge cancelled out by very small decrease on usage costs) but there was a noteworthy drop on the electricity bill where the tariff switched from single-step with Alinta to peak/shoulder/off-peak with Red. Resulted in a ~11-13% saving on usage from 29.34c/kwh with Alinta to 26.20c peak & shoulder + 25.50c off-peak with Red. No idea how or why this happened - didn't even know I had a smart meter capable of it! (rental property in a large apartment complex where meters are locked away)

OT: they (QFF and their earning partners) must be desperate.
Under EDR they (WWR and QFF) also have an offer with Origin energy.
Thus also earning QFF points.
Also its under a special energy plan.

WWR and QFF are entirely separate loyalty programs in the same way that Flybuys and Velocity are. WWR and Flybuys merely have options to convert their points to QFF and Velocity points.

WWR and QFF partnering with different energy providers isn't a sign of desperation - it's a sign of their independence.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you desperatly needs those sc, you could switch and rejoin. This seems compatible with the limitation stated:

Thanks for this. Have switched to Origin who are running an equiv 10k QFF points (via Woolworths Rewards) for signing up. Hopefully that posts before 10 Jan... we shall see!

is there a referral link for the Origin deal? Might as well churn and hope that there will be another Red Energy deal next year.

The current Origin deal for Qld is ~ 10% less than the Red Energy deal.

Keep in mind Red offers a 10% pay on time discount (at least they did in metro NSW - possibly different in other areas). Make sure you activate any targetted WWR boosters before signing up.

I don't believe Origin have a referral program.

Red called to confirm my port out to Origin today and ask for feedback on why I was leaving. I laid it out for them - a promotion over from Origin lured me away, and Red's promotions were only focused on targeting new customers rather than retaining existing, so there was an incentive for me to leave them and come back in a few months time.

They suggested that once my Origin port was completed next week, I could immediately port back to Red and still receive the sign-up bonus as it had been more than 12 months since I last received a bonus from them.

The Origin 20k WWR promo requires 30 days of connection to be eligible, so I should be able to port back to Red just in time for this promo ending on 10 Jan  Never thought I'd be churning energy providers but here we are....

I spoke with Red today and they had a few ideas on why I should stay.

2 pts per $1
plus changed me to a slightly cheaper plan without pay on time discount, works out about 1% cheaper overall.

The customer service person also advised that I would not qualify for the SC as I would have to wait 12 months. That's not how the offer terms read though.

In any case, if they do have a 12 moth requirement, the sooner I churn the sooner I would qualify for their next offer. Doesn't make business sense.

I'll put a note in my calendar for 8 Jan 2021 to churn back.

I have been receiving 2 points per dollar since joining in March 2019, I think that has been around for a while.

They mentioned the new plans to me too, I crunched the numbers on my last year of bills and worked out I'd save about $5/month on average based on my normal usage. The pricing is far more variable for peak/off-peak now, which I can probably take advantage of to save more.

This is different to what the rep advised me. They said customers were only eligible for a sign on bonus once every 12 months - leaving and immediately rejoining was fine.

Has anybody received the QFF status credits in their account yet? How long after initial signup? Trying to line up dates for when to start my Gold fast track... Thanks

After some back and forth to get current gas and electricity meter readings, I received confirmation of transfer to Red Energy eight days go. No SCs yet.

20 SCs for my electricity transfer to Red were credited yesterday. 10,000 points posted a few days earlier, on Sunday.

No SCs or points yet for gas, which was also transferred (a few days before the electricity account, actually).

Thanks for the feedback, credited quite fast it seems...

Origin points have posted to WWR exactly one month after applying:

Once those sweep to QFF tomorrow I'll be giving Red a call to get written confirmation that I'm eligible for the sign-up bonus, then switch back.

The current Origin deal for Qld is ~ 10% less than the Red Energy deal.

About 20 days after joining Origin they sent me the below email, drastically increasing the charges first advertised.

This was because "the charges we originally quoted you for your property weren't based on the correct meter type and/or zone because we were not able to verify and confirm your details at the time. Later on when we checked your property details we'd found that our quote didn't match the charges that should apply"

Update: 10 SCs and 5,000 points for my gas transfer to Red posted a few days ago.
