Random and quick question here (sorry for the new thread, I hate creating one when I think it won't actually live long!)

I put an upgrade request in about a month ago for an impending flight (Saturday); QF93 from Business (D) to First. I'm not counting on it, but it'd be pretty awesome I managed to get it!
When I lodged the upgrade request, I had 40SCs and was bronze.
As of this morning, I'm now QFF Gold (720SCs) and have 780SCs worth of upcoming flights book, mostly QF Business (D/J) and AA First (P) class.

My question: will the magical upgrade fairy automatically take into account my newfound status when considering my upgrade request? Is there anything I should do to re-apply for the upgrade now that I actually have a reasonable level of status?
At present I have taken no action other than looking to make sure the request was still lodged, and choosing a better seat in the current business cabin now that there are less seats blocked.

Thanks very much in advance for any thoughts!

I'd love to know the answer to this. I presume the system knows what the current status of the passenger is at the time of upgrade processing.
As I'm very superstitious I'd probably cancel and then re-request it though, in a belt and braces approach.

I was leaning here too (working in technology and knowing how some systems can get hacked together)- are there thoughts as to if an element of the upgrade consideration takes into account how long ago you submitted the request?

If so I'd potentially leave it as otherwise it'd be a fairly last minute request, traveling Saturday?

At present the flight availability is showing F6 A6 J9 C7 D3 I0 U0 W0 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 G0 E0

...
For a short period, time of request was documented as a major tiebreaker - however, I do not believe it has been a significant factor, if at all, for at least 5 years and likely a few more than that.

I believe its called OpUp.
I did not request a domestic upgrade, and I did not use points either, but as a QF SG, just achieved after a PER - MEL flight, midnight arrival into MEL, 7am flight MEL - ADL, would have just made SG then, I got the most pleasant surprise of my life.
I was PS before, and had made SG just before the upgrade, I knew the I had achieved the step up to SG, and whats the surprise?
Well, I had done OLCI, right, got 7F, had wanted a window seat, 7F just a bit before the wing, but still with a bit of a view.
Got to that final near the end gate, of QF MELd, had my QCC in my hand, got it scanned, had a look at the receipt, and got (scored) 2A!
So, if there are available seats W1/WP/CLs have had their fill, (the QF system will know you have made SG), you should be able to get the desired seats.

With all due respect the OP is talking about getting a points upgrade request from J to F on a MEL-LAX flight. This doesn't really have anything to do with you getting an op-up as a newly minted SG on a domestic flight from MEL-ADL.
Congratulations BTW on both your new status and the op-up. It could be a long time IME before you get another one.

I know that if you submit an upgrade request and later drop to a lower status it will still be processed at the higher status priority. Based on that I would say your request will still be processed as Bronze but in these kind of situations when the rules are not 100% clear I recommend calling QF, they will give you the most accurate answer.

Interesting. I'm wondering if that's more a feature or if it's a system limitation/issue. If the latter it'd make me think resubmitting would be wise.

I did give QF a call this morning, spoke to a very nice rep who told me that my upgrade request was definitely lodged, that my number would be treated as Gold per my status.
I was also worried if I withdrew the upgrade request, that it might not be available for immediate resubmitting or even potentially resubmitting at all, which is why I called (as I was going to cancel/re-apply).

I can't think of any reason that an upgrade request wouldn't be available for resubmission.

You'd have to think you'd be in with a real chance if one is to assume that there are in fact 6 unsold seats in the F cabin. This would be as long as there weren't any oversales in PE or J that would need to be moved up into a higher cabin.

Here's hoping. I've never really been in a position to request an upgrade with QF before; still showing F6 A6 this afternoon. Not sure what it'd look like if there were a bunch of WPs getting upgrades though, as they're now inside T-48.

Fingers crossed I hear something tomorrow, would really be something special- and maybe spoil all other travel for me afterward!!

Advice needed. Op up request done when Q system thought MrP was WP when in fact he'd dropped to SG a few months prior. That error lasted for over 6 months but when the Q website was upgraded a couple of months ago it was rejigged to SG. (Even on his boarding pass he was WP and invited into F lounge). Now he's back to WP - should we cancel then do another request? Travel in July, Y+ booked.

Personally if I was WP and my travel was in July I wouldn't hesitate to cancel and re apply.
Although if the original request was done when WP maybe the point is moot?

I was mainly concerned/unsure as I am only a few days (now about 41 hours) from flying, and know that the upgrade processes had already started (for WP1)

But I have no data to go off though. At the end of the day I'm still in J which is good, but J is no F! :)

He wasnt really WP at the time. It was just Qantas website that thought he was  I think I'll cancel and request again.

The point is now moot enough for me (for the record I left the booking alone).
Well outside 24 hours - wasn't expecting to hear anything until lunchtime tomorrow.
And via text message no less. I am one happy chappy now - now I need to read up on how to make the most of the FLounge and the in flight experience -- Any suggestions welcome!
