Hey all,

Just a quick query. I am now DJ Gold and soon to be QF PS. I usually traval alone, however I have a few flights coming up with my parter, work colleagues etc..

Will my status get us both a crack at row 3 on DJ? Or because there is 2 of us is it different. Same for QF?

Also your experiences when travelling with family for example?

Cheers,
Undercover Brother

No experience with DJ but with QF I find that if I make the booking using my status then my family members get the benefits of my status in terms of the seats available for selection.

I've been DJ Gold since November last year, and almost always get row 3 or 4.

On some aircraft row 4 has more legroom as well. In fact IMO up to row 7 has about an inch more legroom than further back.

I also ask at the lounge if there are any un-sold seats in PE. They only allocate them when the flight is pretty much full, but it's always worth asking - have been seated in PE about 5 or 6 times now.

No experience with DJ and multiple people. It consistently puts me into row 3 as a single. If you were on the same booking you would hope for the same. Maybe search for any complaints about people on the same booking being seated separately on DJ. That wouldn't answer the status related bit of the question but might tell you how the system handles bookings with multiple passengers.

On QF I can never get into row 3 unless I buy a business seat. :p

You will need to be booked on the same itinerary to be able to use your status to get good seats for travelling companions on QF.

A bit OT but a different strange behavior seen from the QF website doing seat selections.

Logged in with (only) PS status and make a booking for a non FF pax (no membership at all). After finalising, selecting the "manage booking" link from the receipt page allows seat selection. No charge and has the PS accessible seats available.

This must be some sort of website funny, because I don't think this should be behaving that way.

Bump!

Can anyone shed an light of their experience with Virgin?

On Wednesday I travelled with a work colleague to Melbourne. I am Gold, he is not. They seated us in row 4.

Funnily enough, they had me in the middle seat. The check-in lady apologised profusely and moved me to an aisle seat with an empty middle seat next to it, albeit a few rows back. So we both had lots of room (though amusingly the non-Gold got row 4 :))

Generally with Virgin I find that my travel partners are seated up with me in Row 3/4.

However, I had a flight about six months ago when I was travelling CBR-BNE with Mrs Gremlin and the mini-Gremlins where we didn't OLCI. Arrived at the airport and Check In Dragon allocated me Row 3 and rest of family Row 18. Needless to say I requested something different. Check In Dragon hurrumphed that they couldn't do any better because the others didn't have "status". Eventually she moved one of the mini-Gremlins and I to Row 8, leaving Mrs Gremlin and the other mini-Gremlin in Row 18, but she didn't seem happy about it.

Then went to the Lounge, where the Lounge Angel moved a few people around. I ended up in Row 6 with one mini-Gremlin whilst Mrs Gremlin ended in Row 8 with the other mini-Gremlin.

Never really properly understood why we weren't all seated together in the first place...

I thought Virgin were "different" and didn't "do" Dragons? Aren't they all supposed to be happy clappy what's hip-hop, trendy munchkins...
Not quite. They are still people and just because they work fro VA doesn't mean they enjoy their job or dealing with DYKWIA's all day.

I am DJ Silver and I have been in the new (the new 737's layout) row 3 on 2 of three flight recently. I didn't even ask, it just happened when I went to check in. However on other DJ flights I'm usually are in row 4 - 7. Not sure if that is a fluke or something to do with status.:)
