Hello all,
Can you keep your Starpoints active by buying additional Starpoints and other means, instead of staying in a Starwood property?
(I don't have any travel plans at the moment)
Thank you.

From SPG T&C:

4.2 Forfeiting Starpoints. Except for SVO Owners to whom the obligations in Section 11 apply, Starpoints earned or otherwise obtained by an SPG Member will forfeit without notice if the SPG Member becomes Inactive, even if the SPG Member has achieved SPG Lifetime Gold or SPG Lifetime Platinum Status. An SPG Member is considered “Inactive” if during a 12-month period: (a) the SPG Member has not had a Stay at an SPG Participating Hotel; (b) the SPG Member has not earned or redeemed any Starpoints; or (c) the SPG Member’s account has been cancelled.
So you need to earn or redeem Starpoints. I am not sure if buying counts as earning or not!

Do you live in or plan to visit a city with a starwood property? You can earn points if you spend more then $10US on food and drinks - don't have to be staying in the hotel. So an overpriced coffee and a slice of cake would be enough to earn some points.

Also look into SPG-UBER promo.

If you link your Uber account(remember to have the same name as on your SPG account), and then take a trip, you will be getting 1 Starpoint for every USD. Easy way to keep it active. However, you would need to have stayed a single night in the current calendar year.
In its FAQ:

Does registering for the SPG-Uber benefits program keep my SPG Member account from becoming inactive?

Registering to earn Starpoints with Uber alone does not keep an SPG member's SPG Member account active. If an SPG member registers for the SPG-Uber benefits program and earns Starpoints from Uber rides, the posting of those Starpoints will keep that SPG member's SPG Member account active. Please see the SPG Program Terms for full details on the SPG program, including to determine the ways that you may keep your SPG Member account from becoming inactive.

When will I become eligible to earn Starpoints for an Uber ride?

You will become eligible to earn Starpoints in accordance with the SPG-Uber benefits program 24 hours after you have both registered for the SPG-Uber benefits program and your first Stay has posted to your SPG Member account for the current calendar year. If you are registered for the SPG-Uber benefits program but do not have a Stay posted to your account for the current calendar year, you will begin earning Starpoints in accordance with the SPG-Uber benefits program 24 hours after your first Stay within the current calendar year posts to your SPG Member account.
