Dear All,
I am a frequent flyer newbie. I am an American moving to Singapore for 12 to 18 months with a consulting firm. I am debating opening a KrisFlyer account with Singapore Air or applying all of the miles I will accrue by flying on Singapore Air to United. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions as to what I should do? After 12 to 18 months, I will return to the U.S. and will not use Singapore Air frequently thereafter.
Thanks!

Personally I would stay with United as will be easier to use points when you get home. just remember their new 18 month no activity points expiration rule.

MelUser's advice is sound for accruing miles - stick to United, if you're only going to be in Singapore for 12-18mths.

However if you are going to be flying frequently in business class on Singapore Airlines - I would recommend joining their program as well as it is free, and you can accrue PPS status from business/first class travel whilst still accruing mileage to United. Just have to make sure at checkin they have your UA number in the correct field in the booking.

If you're travel is all up the back of the bus, I wouldn't bother.
