I have 500k in star alliance miles that will start to expire. I want 3 J SYD-JFK on SQ but cant seem to get all three at the same time which is a waste of time.

Is it worth writing to SQ to request or does anyone else have some tricks up their sleeve?

How are UA rated these days across the Pacific?

Or with the fantastic pirce reductions to the US should i use these points for more regional travel that has more seat availability?

Best value guys?

cheers

- Rubbish.

They are not that bad!! I just did a trip across in Y and I felt it was fine.

the OP has not mentioned what class of travel is required.

kiwitripper: if you really are a kiwitripper, you should know the IATA code for Auckland is AKL

UA's new business class product is very nice. The area where UA lets itself down is in the meals, but the horizontal flat bed seat and the IFE are good. I would'nt have converns using them with teh new product

In addition to NZ and UA across the pacific, there's also AC via Vancouver or Toronto to EWR or LGA.

Not sure if routing rules allow it as you transit North Asia enroute to North America, but Asiana via ICN would be another option, they have quite a good J product.

Or if you really want to be creative, get a cheap QF, DJ or JQ flight up to CNS and try for CO via GUM and HNL!!

Also worth noting from 1 Dec you can do one way awards on star alliance, so you could combine a 1 way on SQ with a 1 way on a partner airline, if the SQ problem is an issue in one direction only.

Try splitting up into 2 and one on separate flights.
One day apart really should not be a problem out of the 30,000 odd most of us are given.
3 in J on a points redemption is unlikely.
In Y should be easier.

Or one hour apart if using UA... one via LAX and two via SFO... or vice versa. THen you'll feel like you're in the Amazing Race.

Yes that is so, i think a personal to note to the boss of SQ here might help, as Plat stautus with SA as well. We can only try. Anyone else been in a similar quandry?

cheers

From what I have seen one can get 4 J to SIN and other Asian destinations (ie I have 4 in J to Vietnam return over Xmas), but only 2 J elsewhere.

In my case for Europe next year I opted for the SIN to Europe legs to book on consecutive days.

thnxs for that dajop, the one way option is certainly attractive.

Are the points required exactly half of the return points?

Cheers

From 1 Dec yes they will be - but are not available on AC or CO.

In business class (one way):
SYD-JFK on SQ is 90,000 less 15% if booked on line (76,500)
SYD-JFK on * partner will be 70,000 pts after Dec 1.
