One of the Star Alliance Gold Benefits is an additional luggage allowance.

My question is, does this allowance still apply if traveling on a SQ Award ticket?

Usually status benefits are provided irrespective of what ticket is purchased .

That's what I thought.

When I recently redeemed an award ticket for next year and asked if I could have my UA Gold FF # put into my booking and explained why I wanted to do it, I was told that my award ticket wouldn't qualify for the benefit.

I think it's going to be the case where I need to call up and speak to a different agent until I get the right outcome.

It’s not uncommon for agents to say ‘no benefits’. Because you are on an award, you won’t earn miles and status etc, so they just give a blanket ‘there’s no need’. Of course there are a whole range of other benefits you will get, so entering in a number is worthwhile.

balcksultan is correct, FF benefits usually apply to award bookings in the same way as a revenue booking. I wouldn’t waste any time calling back, reservations agents are excellent at fares and ticketing, not always as good at understanding cross-alliance FF benefits.

You can ask for your UA details to be added all the same. Whether you get benefits or not is not their concern.
Usually agents say that they will add my details , if and what benefits I receive will be upto system. You can even have it added at the airport.

I agree.

One negative, in “Manage your Bookings” you can’t update the FF number in the booking online when it’s an award booking

Don't worry, phone agents are the least knowledgeable about the sort of benefits that apply.
