Since the demise of Qantas and my Golden Wing membership it is a pain when one has to travel on Star Alliance. All the privileges are gone, most notably the access to a fast queue and a lounge.

I am travelling SYD-SIN-SGN (Ho Chi Minh City)-BKK-KUL-SIN-SYD next month, all in Y. The major haul is fine as I will fly either QF or BA. The smaller hops are a combination of SQ and TG. I am a member of UA Mileage Plus so I will accrue points but in the absence of any real status I am just one of the masses.

I have checked oneworld and find that technically I can fly CX for part of the trip but I have to go into and out of HK (ahh nah!).

Does anyone know of a club in the SA that I can join by paying cash instead of obtaining status as required by the Asian carriers? UA have the Red Carpet Club but it is USD500 to join, a pretty high cost for membership of a club that will only be used occasionally, if not rarely.

I'm guessing that you mean the demise of "Ansett" :oops: or have I missed some thing today :?:

Very funny thing that. I changed that before I sent it (so I thought). No not wishful thinking, but yes Ansett.

I would have ditched my QC card (for which I pay the corporate rates) and jumped on it - but I am not doing it as Priority Pass does not cover the Australian domestic lounges.

I have looked at the site and can see that there are some advantages to it. There are various tiers that you can join with combinations of a fixed up front and then access charges up to the payment of one amount for unlimited access. Standard membership is USD99 with an entry fee of USD24 (!) per visit. The other end of the spectrum is the Prestige which costs USD399 and has unlimited free access. So, 13 visits in a year means it is cheaper to take the latter option.

There are still a number of questions:

1) What is the lounge like re fitout, facilities and food (God I love alliteration)?;

2) How much of a haven is this lounge? ie crowd numbers.

3) Are there any other benefits? As indicated in my wayward initial post I also want the fast check-in as well.

The AUD equivalent of $600 per annum looks to be a bit steep if you have to fight your way through the queues to get there. Not really a priority in my book. If this card facilitated this concession then I would think it worthwhile.

Thanks for the lead however Icemann.
