Seems like SQ likes to block most of the cabin out for some reason, has anyone else seen this or know when the blocks clear usually? (OLCI or earlier?).

This is what I see with my *G number against the booking and on EF:

Rdpt or comm tix yohy? I have seen this before with Y rdpts and it's nigh on impossible to guarantee seat selection.

Can't help on that one mate - have not paid for Y for yonks - and Crystal no longer in our team so can't readily check for you.

Yes, SQ won't let you pick a decent seat even if you are Star Gold (I am lifetime *G). The seat maps don't clear and you end up with a lousy seat. SQ hates Y pax and tries to make their travel experience as uncomfortable as possible. Business class is overdone and the service is insincere.

My advice: just don't fly them. There are much better (and cheaper) options.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Everybody is more than welcome to their own opinion. However, in my experience, SQ looks after its own FF members first - there is no such level as Lifetime *G on SQ. I can always reserve any available seat in any class and I find their service immpecable (well 90% of the time) and excellent value for money.

I have the same problem on a SQ238 in a couple of weeks. Only one other seat that I can select ? Yet I can do a dummy booking for 9 pax on the same flight.

At checkin the seat map will often open up, best advice is not to sweat on it and at 48 hrs out do OLCI and select seat then but if still not happy DO NOT print boarding pass, as you can still monitor and change seats up to a couple of hours before departure.

And yes SQ is cough in economy, things like hot towel services, drinks within 20 mins of take off, multiple drink runs between meals, serving coughtails, 9 across seating on 777 etc are just not good enough in this golden era of flying ;-)

Found the same problem when trying to book 218 next week, so had no choice but to book J instead. Damn...

+1 to that. SQ's Y product is truly fantastic. Their crews make you feel a million bucks, even in the cheapest seats.

Its been awhile since I flew them in Y (3 years) when I was moving overseas and the A380 Upper Deck is brilliant (as is J)

T-96 seems to be the magic number...I have access now to everything but the front row which may be due to KF elites grabbing them all first or a further block till check in.

Also, on intra-asia flights I can select exit row and bulkhead seats.

I've just checked mine to, at T-96 and the cabin has opened up for me, load looks around 70% so I've hopefully keeping the spare seat. - Great tip yohy?!.

SQ do offer a really good quality Y product, - especially if you can get a Y seat (or whole row) in the upper deck of the A380.

If T-96 is the magic number then that is an excellent find. I have 10 upcoming flights with SQ and MI in Jan-Feb 2015 so will keep an eye out.

I just booked SQ 232 and 221 SYD-SIN-SYD. Initially I couldn't get the upper deck in Y for SQ 232 but as soon as it ticked over to November a whole lot more seats became available and I could move upstairs so maybe they have seats blocked for TA bookings and KrisFlyers etc.

For my SYD-SIN leg had the middle seat free which seems to be the norm for the forward part of the Y cabin, most people seemed to have a middle seat free whilst the back of the bus was rammed. For SIN-HKG and HKG-SIN I have a bulkhead in the front row, also have the middle seat free on the SIN-SYD leg and hoping its protected.

New SQ lounge at HKG is also rather nice, posting some pics seperately in the SQ forum.

A happy ending all up with SQ - HKG-SIN had unlimited legroom and free middle seat and SIN-SYD on 77W had free middle seat (managed 4 hrs sleep in Y which is something I havent been able to do for many years, mainly due to premium cabin envy I think ;))
