SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Standards have definitely fallen. My next flights are with QR, NH and CX. From recent experience, all consistent and offer a better product usually at a much lower cost.

I have recently flown QR J for 4 sectors. I found them to be better than SQ J in seating (except on QRs old ex-CX planes, even then, sleeping experience was better), food, service, lounge, amenity kit, pyjamas. The only thing I still prefer is to transit at SIN than DOH even though QR Al Mourjan lounge is much better.

I found SQ J catering standards to have come down.

However, for Aus-East Asia routes, SQ is still one of the best ones, and that actually provided some award availability to/from Australia in peak seasons. No way I would travel on QR via DOH.

CX is even more stingy on award availability, unless you are Diamond or above.

Of course i am not going to even talk about QF.

So really SQ is still a preferred airline, but on a least worst basis.

I'm really hoping the launch of the new A350 seating which is due any day, and is meant to being improvements to the F&B and possibly PJ's etc is actually exciting.

The J product is basically a 15 year old design now on the 777's and A350 and even the A380's have a 8 year old seat... :(

Flew BNE to SIN in J today on SQ. Mediocre at best. Nothing drastically wrong but would never pay more if there were cheaper options, Really sad, they used to be the best, or at least top 3

That’s a real shame, my SQ J (and Y) experiences have been excellent and if someone asked me to tell them what airline to book where they’ll be looked after I’d have immediately named them.

I can’t quite say I want to hear others’ negative stories too but I’m interested in what’s going on. Wonder if it’s some delayed post-Covid funk.

It's just not as great as it used to be..

I haven't flown EK since before COVID, but have a few flights coming up in April with them in J and F so will be good to compare.

found redemptions from SYD-SIN-FRA/MUC but need a Lufthansa flight from FRA/MUC to BER. and return back to FRA/MUC

Should I book the SYD-SIN-FRA/MUC via the website first and then call to see about the domestic Germany flight?
the domestic Germany flight doesn't have to be on points, i can just pay $$.

If I was flying I'd just take the ICE but its for an employee and he'll end up missing the train :p

Should I book the SYD-SIN-FRA/MUC via the website first and then call to see about the domestic Germany flight?

If you mean adding it as an Sq codeshare?
If so then yes - well that was a few years ago

Are you suggesting getting them both on the same itinerary? I don't think that's possible, at least from my experience trying to book SQ SYD-SIN-KIX then NH domestic from KIX.

They escalated and escalated, but came back to tell me it couldn't be done and I'd have to book separate PNRs and risk the misconnect.

Is it possible to add an SQ codeshare for cash onto an existing SQ metal redemption booking?

This used to be possible but now they have decided that they’ll only allow you to join SQ and *A flights on the same itinerary if the SQ flights have been opened up to general *A award availability. And that is almost never with premium cabins.

so what you're telling me is the train is easier
There are multiple ICE trains from FRA to BER - many not requiring train changes
As the ICE trains will take 4hrs, if the layover time is short then the DOM flight will be the quickest.
There are many LH FRA-BER flights especially if the SQ flights arrives in the morning.

If It were me I would try and get SQ to attach a codeshare flight into the PNR, otherwise just buy a revenue LH ticket.

Note that even with separate ticket SQ can throighcheck luggage and issue the BP for the LH sector. Obviously you don’t have protection for the itinerary though.

To add another hurdle..I used velocity points and booked using velocity so think I'll just book the domestic as a separate leg with $$

Sq has good interline agreements with LH and SK.
Have you tried ringing SQ? I find that HUACA does not apply.
With multiple flightsonward flights at FRA (if arrival into FRA is in the morning), I dont think non protection of the domestic sector is a significant factor.
