SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Update is I have booked MU J MEL-PVG/PVG-MEL for $4.8K - flt timings are excellent 👍

Unless we see significant changes to SQ in 2026 with both rdpt inventory and comm tix prices then party totally over with SQ after 25 years - all good things come to an end huh?

I recently travelled one way on SQ with a B773ER.

I knew about the need to flip over the J seat to turn into a bed and also the oddly positioned footwell but the flight attendants blasted light into the cabin too long before reaching the destination. This reduced my sleep by about 45 minutes. Not happy Jan.

The fittings were showing signs of wear: not unexpected. The overall look was 'a bit tired'.

I've had much nicer looking cabins on PR and WY, even though SQ is supposedly the world's best airline or second best to QR.

The food was OK to good depending on the course, but again, WY in particular was ahead.

It's certainly interesting that for various reasons (particularly the changes to the BA exec club for status) quite a number have been trying away from One World (myself included) onto other airlines and indeed Star Alliance. It's also interesting to see quite a few comments from first time users on SQ wondering just what the fuss is all about as expecting the best and deciding it's meadocre. I quite enjoyed my biz flights from Perth to.Hong Kong and back via SIN but not quite so my Y flights (6 sectors). Indeed in biz, the sleeping positions on 350 is not as good as the 787 in my opinion but I liked the seat on the 777 albeit with the scratches and bumps. As good as QR (no way) and in fact I far prefer the AY seat generally. However why oh why is cabin prepared for landing about an hour out ...🙄

All valid points for the poor old 777's now :( That being said it's my favourite SQ aircraft

The refurbished A350's should be good, and hopefully the revamped food and beverage offerings bring SQ back to the glory days.

Because you have to do it by the book!

There is no room for deviation.

And, with the restrictive use of the seatbelt sign, leaving the second meal service any later might mean no meal service at all.

Cf Qantas, where the CSM has the discretion to ‘read the room’, and start the second meal service to respond to what’s happening in the cabin (either folk wanting more sleep, or ready for a snack).

Edited to add… CX isnt much better than SQ… weird meal times and very early second meal service.
