SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

In saying
No doubt we are all different but I always arrive 3hrs pre dep and always find plenty things to do to fill in time

Agree - I misread the post, definitely arrive at the airport 3 hours early, but 3 hours in the lounge is too long.

I'm just not a fan of the MEL SQ J lounge, staff amazing, but just don't feel comfortable in there. The NZ lounge is nicer and the Amex lounge is a waste of time.

For me I like about 60-90 mins in the lounge, but it's the unpredictability of check-in and security that worry me.

I'm flying first class on SQ for the first time Sydney to Singapore • SQ 212 early June. Then back in Business Singapore to Sydney • SQ 221.

I just wanted to reach out and ask you all if there's anything this first timer should know and make sure I don't miss out on! Any and all advice very much appreciate.
Visit the Private Room on arrival into Singapore. You don’t need to collect your bags, they will be stored for you next to the carousel at left luggage.

TRS123 if 1st time F flyer then do yourself a huge favour and make a full experience of it

Definitely arr 3 hours pre dep to maximise your exp in F Lounge. You can indulge in a full sit down slow relaxed breakfast exp with champs - sit and relax watching airport activity out the window for a while - wander the shops outside for a bit - back to F Lounge for another pre flt bevvy - just take in the atmosphere of an environment where staff truly look after you.

Be first to board and take up your F seat/s and enjoy a Krug pre takeoff. Don’t be afraid to tell crew it is your 1st F fly and they will look after you as if you are royalty. Advise crew exactly what time you want your meal served and they will accomodate you.

As MEL posted def visit TPR on arr just to check it out and enjoy another Champs or 2 and a snack maybe - again staff here will look after you like you won’t believe (Unless your nickname is Mortein a.k.a. RooFlyer).

That should just about round out your 1st F exp but make sure you do it all and enjoy every minute. 👍

So you’ve told them I’m coming next month have you?😊. And as discussed, they are going to clear all the Krug out of the fridges and put Cascade in?

Not this week. It’s out of stock again.
Forgot to add when in TPR forget the Comtes vinegar they will offer you and ask staff to fetch you a Rare from F Lounge - now you’re talkin’ 👍👍👍

Passed on your advice Cruiser E to a mate in TPR last night… PH Rare back in stock and promptly delivered 🤸

Ouch @Peasant I hope that gets fixed by June when we are going to London.
Supply has been quite unreliable in the last year and I have a hunch that it seems to disappear whenever Singapore school holidays are on…

T3 F is currently serving Taittinger Prelude. Things are actually better in T2 F where it’s Taittinger Millesime 2015.

And for my fellow Chardonnay connoisseurs, T2 also has Giant Steps Sexton 2018 which is much better than T3’s bottom shelf Chablis.

I am surprised there isn't a separate thread dedicated to Singapore Airlines Suites, First and Business Class meals. There is already one for QF, VA, QR. If there is one, I cannot find it.

Unfortunately, my last SQ flights in the new year were Economy meals, so I cannot contribute. I will fly J in June and July, so I will add then assuming there is a thread for it.

Sadly the Piper Rare is still not back. I suspect we may have seen the end of it as all lounges now serve Taittinger in various forms.

I was spoilt for choice where to ask this question whether on a UA, VA or SQ thread but figured this might be best given it relates to an SQ operated flight.

I just booked 2x reward seats on SQ HKT-SIN in whY using UA miles. I have zip status with UA now so I put my VA FF (Gold) details in during booking. As an aside, I was surprised it let me do that (I know SQ is PITA with FF details on reward bookings).

During the booking process, UA let me select seats (well forward in the whY cabin) although they didn’t stick but I was able to go into UA MMB and try again and they stuck (plus I now see the SQ PNR).

Questions:
1. Is free whY seat selection normal on SQ in this scenario?
2. Or maybe my VA status (possibly because the VA-UA & SQ hookup) let me through?
3. I’m probably going to drop to VA Silver before I fly, will that impact anything?

Either myself or SYD+1 might fire off the UA status match before hand (A*G) to get lounge access etc. That might seem a waste, but we’re unlikely to be “going for Gold” in anger with UA anyway. That strategy worked a treat on Copa (probably the last time I used some residual UA miles).

SQ checkin - counters V kiosks - very senior staff here guarantee me that SQ request counter checkin only for flt 238 as it is much easier to process pax who have connections to India than try to process these pax through kiosks.

Indeed SQ much prefer kiosks for 208, 218 and 228 as it is apparently just easier for pax - pax apparently are way past standing in lines 100 deep and many are more accomplished at checking themselves in through kiosk.

Kiosk checkin allegedly is quicker for total flt than counters - and make no mistake when 380 returns it will def be serviced by kiosks. I was told allocation of checkin via kiosks or counters is totally decision of MEL Airport Admin and not by SQ - today counter row K allocated to 228 checkin which is first time it has been non kiosk in weeks.

Make of above what you choose - never a dull moment huh?
