SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

What kind of Bordeaux's are they pouring in F post pandemic?
Chateau Cos d'Estournel has featured quite prominently in the last few months (great thing that it is, too).

I've also seen Chateau Pichon Longueville and a couple of others rotating through.

I have flown out of SYD a number of times - I have never viewed the lounge there as superior to MEL but others hold a totally diff view - knowing the MEL Lounge Manager and staff so well* I always get preferential treatment so my views are always going to be coloured

Expected as much re the staff! The staff were great in Sydney, but I compared the food to what my partner got in MEL a couple of weeks later, which seemed better. But I guess the main event (for those genuinely travelling in F) is on the plane, just not for those of us travelling in J, PE or Y. Or maybe it's my sweet tooth talking, my partner had the choice of Chocolate Mousse, a Pavlova (in a glass I think) and Ice Cream, in Sydney it was just some small cakes on the buffet which looked like they'd been there a while. The ala carte menu at SYD (daily special was chick pea curry :() ....

That's interesting...I've only had the pavlova (in a glass) in SYD, never MEL. Perhaps they're rotating between menu across the two lounges.

Chickpea curry is an interesting choice before a long-haul flight...perhaps best suited to passengers travelling in Suites, rather than the intimate F cabin on the 777 😁

If SQ says they will respond within 15 business days on my request for refund, what is the chance of that being true?

There were a couple posts yesterday re checking baggage in ADL on VA for a MEL-SIN SQ flt and I now cannot find where they were posted - can someone pls point me there?

Is there a fixed time each day when Award seats are released? Say midnight SIN time, for instance. It looks as though the release time for a connection through SIN e.g. MEL-SIN-LHR will be released based on the departure of the flight from SIN. Any advice would be appreciated.

Gotta tell you these coughking hideous new SQ R cattle pens are not improving - for instance:

1. When seat set to ‘TV’ position it swivels past what should be optimal viewing position - sitting looking directly ahead my eyes are directed straight extreme right hand side of TV - if I swivel back to look at centre screen it then auto disabled any seat adjustment recline / footrest etc

2. Footrest on you beaut seat is so inadequate as they only reach to mid calf level - to actually support lower leg you need to grab the foot rest stool they have on hand

WOW - just WOW - 4 ‘In Flight Managers’ onboard 222 today - normally only 1 of course - necessitated by sheer staff shortages - right through Covid SQ attempted to maintain staff employment levels that would allow ramp up or down as reqd - many younger Crew moved on leaving huge gaps in entry level staff categories - now to fill full complement of staffing reqd 380 (26 Crew Members in total) SQ regularly have to send out SOS to senior staff to just fill whatever position on flts is reqd - never compulsory only volunteers.

IFMs who are not actually in charge of flts say it is FANTASTIC to do these flts with no pressure on them

Oh and staff shortages not only with onboard Crew - every sector of SQ operations desperately short of staff and scrambling to fill positions.

Currently record numbers of Trainee Crew Members starting training or in the pipeline - but everything takes time

At moment IFM thinks there are 6 x SQ 380 back operating - other 3 have been requisitioned from Alice Springs but time line to retrofit and overhaul is long delay - but they are coming

Still doesn’t get us old R back but at least will increase chances if R/F rdpts right across the network

So think about it think about it think about it - loadings are bursting at seems- we need more flts bigger planes more often - BUT - appears Crewing them may be the big problem right now

Staggering isn’t it sitting in F quiet as a titt mouse minding your own business taking care of AFF business and next door to you pax is watching a movie with BOSE headphones on and is so engrossed they have no idea how loud they are screaming in a thriller movie?

I’ll have a gentle chat to the Ette as soon as her movie is finished!

Award seats are released each day at 10am Syd/Mel time (11am during daylight savings time).
