SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I’ve got Mel-Sin-Fra plus return on J saver in Dec/Jan.
Mel-Sin-Cgk plus return on J saver in April Easter/Anzac day period.
Mel-Sin-Fra on F saver and the return on F advantage.

Great to see J saver so easily available but sad that F saver and even advantage is pretty rare.
I’ll be slumming it in longhaul J for the first time in many years but I’m sure I’ll be enjoying it!
Wow that's a lot of flying - good on you @potm. They may only be bringing the new A380s back (with the 6 suites compared to 12 in old) so that may have an effect on Saver F/R availability I think.

always wanted to try the staff canteens but fairly sure have to clear customs.
not so easy to find, i did try once but gave up pretty quickly
Yes, you have to clear customs to come into the 'secure' or airside area to gain access, so while in transit should be a goer - if the videos are correct.

It appears that this is only accessible from inside the terminal after customs not externally. There is a video showing the route to the equivalent place in Terminal 2 from within the secure area - for example.

A quick search reveals all.

I believe the staff canteens are land-side and actually open to members of the public. If arriving into SIN you'd need to enter Singapore through passport control in order to be able to access them.

That's awesome @Kimster - great to hear!

Regarding the waitlists, did you have to send a "chaser" to get them cleared or did they clear automatically?
If yes, how long between waitlisting and receiving confirmation?

Sorry for the questions - I waitlisted a couple of good options and then make a confirmed booking that had the 16hr layover as I didn't want to leave it to chance - would be better though to have the WL'd flights confirmed though and switch the confirmed booking to that.

Thanks heaps in advance!
Hey Mate - Did not have to run a chaser to have the waitlist flights clear. All in all, 3 out of 4 waitlist flights cleared in 2 days of making a booking. No status with Krisflyer - Gold from Yesterday

I'd hate to have a longish transit in SIN enroute to BLR - So I normally make a booking with the shortest transit time. SQ228 to SQ 512 with the 50 min transit is a godsend!!!

Thanks @Kimster much appreciated mate.
Our trip to BLR is all good, we've got the 4hr40min transit from SQ238 to SQ510 (remember the good old days where SQ502/SQ503 was the only way to go between SIN & BLR if you wanted to avoid the MI flights?).

It's the journey back to MEL where I've got the 16hr transit booked and the ~2hr transit waitlisted. No news on that one yet, I might ring up for a chaser next week to try my luck!

Thanks again for the info!

December ribbon-cutting for stunning new first class and business class lounges at Changi T3’s SilverKris lounge precinct
Stellar news mate, can't wait to check it out!

So it's been a while booking redemptions with SQ, so I (and maybe a few others) need a referesher.

I want to book 4 pax for J class MEL-SIN. There are no MEL-SIN but I found 4 J savers SIN-MEL in April. There are plenty of J saver & Adv MEL-SIN for 2 pax.

What do I do now?

Do I book 2 J savers on the days there are ADV seats available to book and assume there will still be 2 J ADV seats left after I have booked the 2 J savers.

Looking for some advice from the Kings and Queens of SQ redemptions. I have a confirmed J redemption but waitlisted the same flight on my preferred date. The waitlist has come through with instructions to confirm on-line, however I will need the points from the current booked flight to transfer to the new date. I'm afraid that if I try confirming it on-line without the necessary points in my account it will cancel.

I tried calling but after a super-long wait the line dropped out so I thought I'd ask the experts. The on-line management of waitlists is new, right?

new T3 lounge looks good!

Is it accessible by virgin platinum members still?

🎉🎉🎉 oooh I like…
… and about time that dark heavy stuff went. I hope they also increased the number of women’s showers too !
I say the latter because hubby never seems to have to wait for this service whereas it was always inadequate with Q’s on my side. I cannot wait to get back to my favorite experience of SQ228 Friday afternoon in J (🤞 May)….

I'm having trouble making a booking. Looking to fly return Mel to Vancouver in Dec. I found a saver flight NH SYD-HND-YVR for the way there and SQ YVR -SIN-MEL but they are pricing it as more than the star alliance award rate of 260,000. I wanted to get the MEL-SYD leg with Virgin added to the ticket but I thought that was creating the problem so I told him to take that out. Not sure why they can't price it correctly.

Anyone seeing/saw J Saver/Advantage for MEL-SIN in Dec-Feb or is it too late now, appears to be empty for all 3 months I searched, in fact until end of March 2022. I think I might have seen some a few weeks ago but hadn't booked anything (my fault), but it seems Y is also dry, which seems rather odd, makes. me think that these few months have been blocked out. Though ADL and SYD are showing availability... unless there is unprecedented demand from MEL due to the countless lockdowns we had...

I have seen a few, lots of people are waitlisting and changing their flights as different things become available so keep checking.

Note that Virgin is not in the Star Alliance, so if included (added on) it would be the total points cost of the *A legs plus the points cost of MEL-SYD leg with Virgin as a Partner Award.

Thanks. Expertflyer don't work for SQ, or do they? Or whats the best for keeping track? Hard old way of using the App?

That's what I thought but the system isn't letting him do it. Also, I have to book two one ways as it can't combine a star alliance ticket and a singapore ticket into one round trip.

I'd love to know if there is an easier way. I just keep checking manually. I feel so annoyed that I pay for expertflyer and it can't find me Cathay or Singapore.
