SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I guess that works both ways :)

And, the passenger may not even know who moved to accommodate them.
Maybe you should respond to the request with, "Yes, conditional upon the requester being made aware that I am sacrificing my wellbeing and travel experience just for them and they should at the very least come and say thankyou. If not, then no." :p

Yes you have expressed that before MEL - so let’s be clear again - a couple traveling together cannot secure 3C/D to sit together because I am in 3C - SQ staff pre boarding come to me with these exact words - ‘Mr Elite - we have a couple traveling together who would really like to sit together in a double Suite so would you at all mind moving so they can sit together’? ‘Yes no problem’ - ‘OK I will tell them you have agreed to move so they can sit together’ - now be honest here MEL - does common courtesy not require a simple acknowledgment / thank you for moving?

Right now I’d be very happy to move back a window single suite, if one were available. And, I have predetermined previously in F that I do not want row 4 ‘under any circumstances.’ So, If a couple of partners of any sort want my Centre seat and there’s no other singles, it will be a conundrum.
I still do not want to be that close to a stranger.

But you cannot have more than 12 pax in Suites - if a couple are not already seated together means 1 or both must have window seats - no problem to swap there. Are you LHD or RHD? A / D Suites for LHD and C / F Suites for RHD - simple!

Yep, happy to swap, although I’d be very strongly disappointed and hesitate if wasn’t row 2 or 3. It depends on who comes in/on from now on. As a side sleeper I have decided which way I want my rear end to face (to put it politely) and have chosen accordingly. Hint, I sleep on my left and I will face the aisle.

Does anyone know if 18D and F on the A380 with upper level economy at the back are bulkhead seats with full sized foot rest?

It would appear so on the seat map, but I read an AusBT article about the best seats on SQ A380s and it mentioned 18A and K, but not the middle pair.

That depends :) Equally it could be said that they shouldn’t need to thank a solo traveller for moving when the solo traveller had the sole intention of securing a double bed.

Solo pax pay for ONE seat on the plane. Not two. So if a couple comes you should move, no ifs, no buts, and no ‘thanks’ required. More like a ‘fair enough’.

At least that would be the other side of the coin.

Damn, what's the route & date of this flight? It seems to me that Suites is chock a block full by reading the past few messages in this thread. I would've thought that most flights (especially weekday ones in off-peak travel times) would have maximum 1 or 2 pax in Suites. Unless I'm assuming completely wrongly?

I disagree @MEL_Traveller. I choose the centre seat in R, but I have never had the intention to secure a double bed. I just prefer the C/D seats. I would be disappointed if SQ reckoned I should move without so much as a thank you.

Note: I have not been asked to move so for me the question is moot.

Clearly you and I came up through different manners school MEL - but each to their own.

Not a SQ issue JT - SQ staff thanked me til the cows came home and always have on the half doz times I have given up my seat - pax who wanted to sit together would have 100% clearly been told that 3C was already occupied by a solo pax and that they would 'ask' said pax if they would consider moving to allow the couple to sit together - the couple in question would CLEARLY have known a pax moved for them - call me simple, backward or just plain old fashioned but where I come from a simple 'thank you' goes a long way.

Well there are 12 seats. And, 3 are still available.
I’m flying on a Friday. CBR -SIN is wide open.
SIN-FRA-JFK is the issue.

Ah yes, the "infamous" route! There's actually a thread on FT calling it that!
Did you book it at the point of release?
Together with the CBR-SIN ticket or separately?
I'm planning to do the same, though from MEL.

Yes, a ‘nod’ that you have moved might not be uncalled for. But i can also understand the frustration a couple might have knowing there was a good chance they might not be able to sit together during the flight. Or a mother with child. Then they get on board and see it’s a solo traveller trying to score the double bed. So i can see both sides.

But this was in reference to having ‘class’ when flying first class (or lack there of). The ‘cuts both ways’ is that it is not classy to expect a thank you, and get upset if you don’t get one. You just take it in your stride as you don’t know the circumstances of the other people.

I’ve been monitoring this route as I’m looking to book something for next year and I can see 2 Suites savers come up almost every Monday and Tuesday. Other days it seems like it has to be an advantage award.

Obviously that doesn’t help if you want to travel on a Friday.

MEL you are like

I give up!

Booked all on one PNR at the release date.
Well done, enjoy your trip. It's a lonnng journey, but being in Suites should more than make up for it.
At the end you'll get off at JFK and think "wow, did the time really go that quickly? The flight(s) wasn't long enough!"

SQ will be so hard to get reward seats now it’s almost on a need to know basis for this very public forum on actually securing the seats.

I found it very easy to get suites - first go. In fact I hadn't even transferred points into my KF account. Bit of a nervous wait for the transfer to complete, but it all worked out well.

We're looking forward to flying lots more with KF!
