SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

We all had that one and my son thought his seat was better than Suites.
He flew up to Canada in economy so now he knows plane rows go way past rows one and two.

Yes the new F seats are excellent - but cabin with 4 seats does not feel 'exclusive' - it feels tiny / confined / closto - take your pick - been there once and seriously would avoid if poss. Gotta get that planning cap on pronto.

Yes GarrettM tough lesson indeed. We fed that son on chicken and he kept growing. I thought it was pretty funny when he could put his chin on top of his mother's head but of course that made it difficult to sit in economy seats. Just one more reason why he uses my Kris Miles account.....it's mainly because redemptions are easier than on QF,AA and Velocity for long hauls for the best seats.

Currently in TPR waiting for SQ231 back to SYD - we haven't been kicked out this time. I managed to get the last lobster, so no complaints this time around!

Did you happen to further discuss your previous 'eviction' with lounge staff to ascertain actual position?

TBH I have never heard of any others being shown the door once they were ensconced in TPR - but I think you said you were not actually ushered in in first place?

On the bright side you will be able to discuss being booted from a leading First Class International Lounge with a very select band of AFFers here who experienced similar treatment after they ran amok in QF MEL F.

The countdown is on - cant help but feel slightly excited about my upcoming flights. First time at the pointy end :p

Flying suites on xmas day from Sydney then onto Hanoi on the 26th. Booked onto MI654 at this stage but wait listed for SQ176 which departs on the morning of the 26th which is my preference.

Flying back to MEL from BKK in suites from SIN on SQ217 and have confirmed flights on the 5th of Jan but hoping to get back on a later flight either 6th or 7th Jan. Given I have an existing booking, can I wait list these flights via the call centre if I don't have sufficient points in my account?

Ho Ho Ho!

Hi, Having some issues waitlisting. I'm looking at 4 seats in J Japan to oz in july next year, flexible with departure locations. I have secured the oz-japan leg ok. But I punch in the dates and number of travellers, am presented with the options and it says you can waitlist on a few of them. So I go through the whole procedure of selecting all the passengers and at the last hurdle it I get the red x symbol saying unable to do this try again or call singapore air. I called them for one of the flights and they said there werent enough seats, yet it says there is on the waitlist???? Am I missing something? any pointers here? Thanks

I didn't discuss the previous eviction with them, but have sent an e-mail to the feedback team. I'll let you know when a response comes through.

We were ushered through, but the lounge agent quickly glanced at our suites BP from our SYD-SIN leg and took the SIN-LGK leg ticket to process. The reasoning for our removal was that it was greater than 24 hours from our first leg (therefore no arrivals access) and that the J leg wasn't eligible for access because it wasn't F. Though in reflection, it seems stupid to have taken the J BP if there was no way that access could be granted from it, and that any potential access would be from the Suites BP within the 24 hours..

Anyway, being removed from the lounge will likely be a more fond memory in years to come, than the lounge itself.

I have never been kicked out of an airline lounge... EVER...
I am aware that some lounges do close after I depart (on the last flight), but I am not sure what you would have to do to be kicked out? Were you particularly drunk? or obnoxious?

Unlike pretentious nightclubs, your sex, physical appearance, or dress** are not grounds to deny entry or evict you.

** caveat that some lounges claim to have dress rules, although enforcement can be haphazard (e.g. Qantas).

This process still intrigues me - you 100% confirm that your 2 sectors SYD-SiN and SIN-LGK were booked on the same same Booking Ref no.? Your ~36hr layover was indeed a stopover and was part of your one booking?

Gday

I am also intrigued as i booked a SYD-xSIN-HND ticket in first class with a 5 day stopover in SIN during which time i will be flying straight to KUL. I booked the SIN- KUL tickets on a separate booking in economy. My grand plan was to use TPR before the SIN- KUL sector but based on what Dec540 says above i will be sitting out in the terminal with the unwashed masses!

If the SIN-KUL is the same day as you arrive from SYD, you will have TPR access by virtue of your incoming flight.

Alternatively, if you have have your boarding pass SIN-HND (available 48 hours prior to departure), you'd also theoretically have access.

Without either of the above, no access.

My SIN- KUL flight is 2.5 hours after arrival into Changi from SYD so i should be ok.

Thank Mel_Traveller.

Not sure if this question is aimed at me or CE's reference to the QF eviction. If it was posed at me, we were completely sober and definitely not obnoxious or rude, we were just happy to be in TPR for the first time.

Yes, same booking reference. I don't know what the technical difference is between of layover vs stopover. We didn't request a stop in Singapore, the first connecting flight to LGK after our SYD-SIN leg was 36 hours later, so we booked that.

I have the official response from SQ, which seems to clear things up. They've offered a 75SGD voucher for my troubles, which I'll be declining. I don't see the point in receiving compensation if the removal from the lounge was legitimate. I don't believe I was officially told by SQ that I would have TPR lounge access prior to our trip, so I don't believe they were at fault. At least now we have official clarification on the matter, even if it does seem to contradict information CE has been provided in the past.

Thank you for your patience while we looked into your concerns.

We note your disappointment when our staff at The Private Room had initially provided you with inaccurate information regarding your lounge access, for your travel on MI 368 / 27 November 2016 from Singapore to Langkawi. We understand our staff had subsequently informed you on the policy after you had entered The Private Room and certainly recognise that this must be frustrating for you.

We apologise for the lack of clarity provided by our staffs on this occasion and acknowledge that our staffs could have handled the situation. Please allow us to share that access to The Private Room is only available for passengers who are departing Singapore on Singapore Airlines in Suites or First Class. In instances whereby passengers arrive in Singapore on First Class on Singapore Airlines, access to The Private Room is extended if they are connecting on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir within the same day . Regrettably, on this occasion, although you travelled in First Class on SQ222 / 25 November 2016 from Sydney to Singapore, your connecting flight was on a different day on MI 368 / 27 November 2016 from Singapore to Langkawi in Business Class. That said, our staff in The Private Room should have better explained the situation to you.

Please be assured that our Premium Services Manager has reviewed this lapse in service to our staff concerned. They will be guided on how they can do better. Our front line employees are expected to serve in a way befitting of a world-class carrier, extending professional service and accurate information to our passengers at all times. Through this, we hope to inculcate the correct service mindset in all our employees, so as to ensure that premium service is delivered to our valued passengers.

A day in FF life....
Passenger, we will call him B1, arrives at TPR concierge desk to be greeted by SQ Singapore Girl.
SG: Good morning sir, madam. Welcome to TPR, how can I help you this morning?
B1: I would like to enter TPR. It is my first time and I am excited, I have heard it is really something. Here is my invitation.
SG: Would you like to keep your invitation MrB1 and Mrs B1? Many passengers do as a memento?
B1: Thank you.
SG: MrB1 I am sorry to inform you that this morning I cannot let you into the TPR as it is full. If you come back in a few hours I might be able to get you in but please arrive before midday as I expect another rush as the next mob come back from sightseeing. They usually stay until around 3pm when they head to Raffles for a Sling.
B1: Thank you for the advice. (looks dejected)
SG: Mr B1 you will always have your invitation to recall the occasion.

Purely fiction...

There was no QF eviction; CE just likes to stir.

OK that clears it up - I think. It appears Lounge staff were not totally over policy as I questioned Manager specifically on the 'same day / stopover' policy and was advised full F benefits flow for entirety booking if mixed F/J and paid at F rates. I should be in TPR at 05:30 morrow I will double check that with Manager on Duty and see if the news has filtered through.

I wonder CE, how much of the information you are given is an attempt to please/agree with you? I'm sure you ask lots of questions and perhaps in some cases the respondent is trying their best to make you happy, and simply follows the path that is most generous so as not to upset you or inconvenience you by not knowing the correct answer.

The official response from SQ makes the most sense in terms of lounge access... the supposed ability to use the lounge daily for a week on a stopover as you were previously advised felt incorrect. Aside from immediate or next day connections, I don't know how many people would have a similar interest as you to be actively questioning the manager about lounge access anyway. The rules are probably straight forward for the vast majority of passengers... departing F boarding pass, or same arriving F with same day connection to SQ/MI.
