SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Check-in in ZRH still handing out invitations to TPE:

Check-in MEL outbound told us they no longer handing them out - IMHO they are a great souvenir - if you travelling SQ F make sure you ask for one when checking in.

Go figure. Just rode SQ227 SIN - MEL in R with SHMBO.

Used First Class kerbside checkin and was given 2 neatly written personal invites to TPR ( by name ) . Nice touch I thought.

Walk to TPR and gain access.... all good. Ask attendant for the invites back to keep as a momento and she politely advised...." Sorry sir we need to keep them"... and walked off..!!!!

No big deal as I've used the TPR many times..... it just struck me as odd.

For next time pocket the invite, and just use boarding pass for access as you are eligible...

FWIW, I have never not used TPR in R or F on SQ.

In TPR just now. Flew SQ 218 last night at 00.05
Walking down the gangway, about 3m from door and CSM calls out "Good evening Mrs Duffa, good evening Mr Duffa, welcome aboard"
What the??!!
How did he know who we were?

Glass of Dom offered

Me: "It's a bit late to be drinking champagne"
CSM: "There is NEVER a wrong time to drink Dom Perignon, sir"

Obviously he has worked a few sectors with Cruiser on board :)

Taking my first F flight this week (unfortunately no suites available) 5th October.

SQ801 PEK-SIN
SQ211 SIN-SYD

Any recommendations on seats/meals/lounges for an SQ newbie?

Cheers,
leyy

leyy you will get to try new CA F Lounge in PEK - Air China Showcase New Shanghai And Beijing Lounges | DesignAir - I have not tried it as yet but was somewhat underwhelmed by the PVG equiv - but I am told PEK better.

801 dep 00:10 correct? You will be sleeping most of flt only 5hrs. And of course in SIN if you are holding SQ F BP you can access TPR. Meal wise there you will be fine - just go with what you desire. Have fun - shame the PEK-SIN sector o/n.

this may be considered a bit wasteful, but i would suggest BTC if you see something you like. and if there's something on the flight menu you fancy then either swap, or use the BTC for a different service.

are you a drinker/eater/windowwatcher/sleeper/entertainer etc?

perfect thanks guys. yes SQ 801 is red eye o/n flight so I'll probably sleep most of it.

I'll let you know how the CA F lounge is in PEK,

Great so I'll be able to access TPR (as both flights are First but not the A380)

Cheers,

Yes leyy please do report back on CA PEK F lounge.

Access to TPR is for SQ First Class pax only - makes no matter if you are in Suites and carrying Gold BP or are in Std F carrying Maroon BP - you are still eligible either way.

It's nice when that happens! Could have been the other pax were already on board... or they deduced from your ethnicity who you were.

FYI

I visited the Air China First Class Lounge in PEK T3 and what a disgrace the lounge is. It is exactly as you mentioned in your complaint letter cruiser.

There were no F&B offerings, staff have the wrong attitude and unhelpful. The bar had no one serving for more than an hour and I could not see anything worth drinking... They had Great Wall Chinese red/white wine. I could not see any champagne on offer. The showers were so SMALL and stuffy, I actually was more sweaty after the shower as the exhaust was inexistent. This experience may have been due to the time I visited around 11pm.

There was about 15 people in the lounge all up, Wifi was a drama have to scan your passport to get a code and the machine was faulty... Staff needed my boarding pass so I could take a shower?

The lounge looks completely different to the link shown. I may have gone to the wrong first class lounge? I asked the help desk at PEK airport to direct me to the First class lounge, how many do they have at the international airport T3? I could only see the one... I must of been in the wrong first class lounge otherwise it is really a complete disgrace.

that link looks like the new PVG lounge.

What you describe however is the norm for most chinese operated lounges.

What I found strange is the *A lounge at CAN... It's like a shoebox and can never get a seat.

I've been in the CZ lounge just up the walkway and it was much much nicer. I understand it's their home airport but the fact that TG/SQ don't have a lounge at CAN amazes me.
