Hi all, wanting some opinions on the following scenario please :)

Booking reward flights to Europe, and availability of seats and my mileage balance will be scraping me +1 through. Have found SQ228 using VA points in Y, connecting to SQ352 in J, using SQ points. SQ228 arrives at 2130, and SQ352 departs at 2350.
Totally separate bookings, but being same airline and a nice smooth Changi airport should be good insurance. Right?
And i presume through check of bags won't be an issue when checking in too.

Tell me I'm not being too naive? I have been known occasionally for having a slightly optimistic view :D

I've done exactly this in the past with no problem. Call SQ and get the two bookings linked. Bags will be checked all the way and you can get your boarding passes at the same time.

Well done on scoring these awards.

As Comoman has mentioned above, you'll be all good with what you've planned. Just make sure to give the KF hotline a call, to link your two bookings together. At check-in at MEL, you'll receive both boarding passes for SQ228 and SQ352. Your bags will also be checked in all the way to CPH, no need to gather them at SIN and re-check them in. It definitely is a seamless experience.

Source: Just last month flew SQ218 and MI482, on completely separate PNRs (SQ218 was an award booking and MI482 was a paid ticket). No dramas at all at MEL check-in, though I did have an assistant with me as it was a Suites booking (given you have SQ228 booked in whY, you'll be at a kiosk to (self) check-in, so if you don't get both boarding passes you'll need to seek assistance).

You should have no problems.
Have a great trip.

Cool that's exactly what I was expecting us everything goes to schedule. My main hesitation is with delays, being on seperate PNRs will that potentially leave me at the mercy of SQ, or will they have an obligation to assist?

I think they'll put you on the next flight, especially as you've linked your PNRs in the system.
Have a look at the historical on-time performance of SQ228, it's always on time (sometimes even early), so I think you're all set :)

OK time for an update. Successfully booked, however there was a pretty major oversight on my part early on when doing the calculations. I didn't mention that in CPH we are connecting to an SK flight, which makes the award a *alliance, costing 85k. I then realised it would only be 105k from MEL, all the way in J under the same chart. So rather than spending 35k VFF points on a connecting Y redemption, I converted 62k VFF points to make up the difference.
So long story short, J all the way, on one ticket :D:rolleyes:

Very happy here, and a nice surprise for +1

Thanks for the input all.
