It won't mean cheaper taxes for award bookings, they are set by governments and airports. But it will definitely mean cheaper fees/surcharges on award bookings as fuel surcharges are usually the only extra fees you pay on award bookings, over and above the genuine taxes and airport charges.
 
Just my luck - I recently booked 2 x J award bookings SIN-BNE for June. I pondered if fuel surcharges would drop, but didn't want to risk losing the Saver Award.

Having said that, I had a look and my preferred flight is now on Waitlist for a Saver, so I guess I won!
 
Yeah, I'm thinking I will have to just pay the extra to secure the F redemption I want :(
