Hi all,

I am flying SQ SYD-SIN-BKK return in Y. SQ ticket and metal.

As a Virgin Plat is there any benefit outside lounge access and priority boarding etc..? Could I swindle a better seat in the lounge (or prior) if there are any available or will they ask for payment like it says online - before I buy extra legroom I thought I'd check if anyone had luck here.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't see either way what the answer was. Thanks in advance

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Singapore are ok in recognition of virgin status, priority check in, boarding ect but in the 10 times I’ve flow SQ as a VA plat I have never been opted up or given a nicer seat then what I have selected at check in.

Don’t bother with the KrisFlyer gold lounge in SIN..

I've found that as VA Plat, I've been treated fairly well on SQ. More than once I've been granted exit row seating on request at check-in.

There's a new temporary Krisflyer Gold lounge which is actually the new Marharba Lounge in T3. It's not bad.

I’ve always found Singapore staff to be helpful regardless of status, but they are also good at recognising Velocity status. On the way home from London recently, the London and Singapore lounge staff helped me get a row of three to myself on both legs - essentially lie flat seats at K pricing.

It was partly luck too. I couldn’t get even one spare seat next to me on the way over. The flights were totally full. I’m glad I shelled out for an aisle seat ahead of time as a precaution. If you want to be 100% sure to get that extra legroom seat then I’d buy it up front. I just wish they had free seat selection for velocity gold and plat like they do KrisFlyer status holders.

I’ve read a lot of negative comments about the Krisflyer Gold lounge, but I don’t mind it. The major drawback for me is the lack of bathroom. But the food has always been delicious and it’s more spacious and light than Singapore’s Melbourne business and first lounges as a comparison.

Ok great. I might book an aisle seat on each leg and then try my luck for an exit row at checkin/lounge.

Good to feedback guys. Thanks

As already mentioned, the KFG lounge in SIN is closed so you'll be directed to a section of the Maharba Lounge in T3. The SKL's in Australia are nice though.

I've been moved to an exit row at check in before (unrequested, and probably should have asked to get my original seat back, but the pro-activeness was good).

It should be noted that the KFG lounges in SIN do not appear to have the ability to change seating or issue new boarding passes etc from previous experience.

Any 'haggling' should be done at check in or at a SilverKris J/F lounge.

I found that too. The gold lounge staff can look at the seating map, but can’t change it. They told me to go down to the transit desk to change my seat to my preferred one, which the transit staff did. The transit desk isn’t too far away, but it’s a bit of a pain, particularly when lounge staff at every other airport can change seats.

I was able to haggle (actually just ask) for exit seats on all flights. All in all I think Singapore Y & Y+ is really good.

I really enjoyed flying with them. The SilverKris lounges are great. Those Gold ones are pretty run down and not that appealing. I'm going to try SQ J next trip to Asia.

Thanks for your advice. It did help make it a more comfortable journey for less $$

The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge in T3 at SIN is closed for refurbishment and pax are directed to the Marharba Lounge where SQ have a dedicated section.

A month or two back the SYD check-in agent moved me from PE row 33 to bulkhead row 31A on new A380 both sectors SYD-SIN-LHR. Normally you pay $100 + $140 for that but she gave it to me for free. No idea if it related to status or not, but I was certainly being overly polite and chatty when checking in.

31A - It's a great seat. Up the front!

We're there Monday, paid business class. Since the Silver lounge is way busy and we want a shower, would the Marharba work better? Would they let us in?

I was there on Friday morning traveling in business class. Didn't find the lounge overly business and found a seat quite easily. When I visited the bathroom most of the showers were vacant. Not sure what the situation might be with evening flights.

Apologies didn't want to start new thread.

If I book the cheapest possible SQ flight HKG-SIN-BKK and return would I still earn Velocity SCs? 35 SCs each way? Not worried about reduced Velocity dong for the flights.

Yes you should. I think all the commercial fare classes accrue to Velocity, in any event it’s easy enough to find the specific fare class before booking on the SQ website, to cross check with earn categories on Velocity website.
