Just booked this for May. Some might think it's not that great, but for me it's fine.
I was holding a VA J reward on QR ATH-ADL which cost 121,000 points and a co-payment of $703. I thought this was fine when I booked it, but having reassessed things recently, I came up with a better option (for me, at least).
So I cancelled the VA reward (no cancellation fee due to a coincident schedule change), and banked the points and cash. Then, after booking the SQ fare I booked a VA reward DPS-CBR (via ADL/SYD) for 22,000 points and $150 or so). Seat 3A, so not too bad.
So as I see it I'm better off by approx 99,000 points for a cost of $1,000 or so. Good value I think, especially as it gets me to CBR instead or ADL, but of course it's PY...
