Let's just say a friend of mine travels from time to time with different members of his family (same surname). If he did it properly he would then have multiple KrisFlyer accounts all with fairly small balances.

But what if my friend decided to use just one account for his family members and each time a family member travelled with him, they quoted that account number on their booking. That way there would be two accounts : one for him and one for let's say his wife which had all the wife / daughter's points. Thus being consolidated to two accounts would be more useful.

When making a booking what checking is done to ensure the KrisFlyer number quoted matches the name of the traveller? I'm guessing not too much because last year I got a total stranger's trip credited to my account. The points sat there for over a year before they were reversed. However I would hate to see the points vanish.

I note that while other FF programs allow transfering / gifting of points which would achieve the same result, SQ doesn't.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The rules are pretty simple.

  • One account per person
  • You cant transfer points between accounts

If you want to play blatantly outside the rules then that is your own choice, but SQ might cancel your [friend's] account(s), which would mean NO miles.

Can you get away with it? I don't know.
