Hi,

Just attempting my first SQ J redemption (during school holidays to make it harder) & wanted to check with more experienced members that I'm doing it right. I've redeemed from VA, CX and EY (not during school holidays) without issue. I want to check I'm on the right path here. The flights for my intended day of travel were released last night. The day I want to fly was released last night. I checked the night before as a tester and they were all on Wait List. I logged in at 4am SYD (1am SG - told they're released midnight SG time). J Saverwere all waitlisted. I called SQ call center and told that was normal and to check within a few hours and they'd be cleared.
I checked at 11am SYD time and J Saver were all still waitlisted but had more choice of times but J saver fares were also waitlisted. I called SQ back said that they weren't able to tell on their system if the seats were booked or not and suggested I waitlist. Plenty of availability rest of the month. Planning to go to Maldives with the Mrs no kids. My questions -
  • Is this just how things work for school holidays?
  • Are parents (or iflyflat) staying awake for 3am to book these flights?
  • Have I been led up the garden path by SQ call center and the waitlist means the seats are taken as I suspect?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts :)

Just how things work full stop alby - add the WL flts you want and just wait a bit - I have had 3 WLs clear in last 2 days - 1 was 350 days out - other 2 10 days out.

Thanks for the heads up CE glad I'm doing it correctly. Didn't marry up with my other experiences with other airlines so was starting to get worried. How long does it usually take to clear from when you've entered them? (Assuming your 10 days out WL was entered recently not a year ago :) )

In my experience there is no pattern to when a WL will clear.

I have had them clear months/weeks out or not at all.

I suspect it is all to do with the dark art that is yield management so will vary from flight to flight.

Also, head over to this thread
Thanks for the pointer RooFlyer. Been making my way through the thread. Should be done in the next day or so. Lots of good info. Lucky it's not yet as long as the ATO thread :)
Have secured outbound leg this morning (wait lists seem to be clearing some availability) Flight I really wanted not avail but I'm wait listed won't complain if my existing booking in suites stands). Was told didn't have to transfer points/pay cash till next August but might just do it now anyway (expecting $A's recent luck might not hold that long).
Can see myself taking a shining to SQ.
Thanks for helping an SQ newbie.

Hi, looking for a J booking next year. No probs getting the outbound leg on savers but the return is all waitlist. If I book a return flight and waitlist half of it. Am I guranteed the leg that is available? Or as its a return booking if the waitlist doesnt come through is the whole booking cancelled? Or vice versa , if time is getting tight and the waitlist hasnt come through and i cancel am I cancelling the whole trip or just the waitlisted part? Hope that makes sense!
