SQ Business looks better than QF first.

What are they going to do?
What the pictures do not show is that the new SQ J seats are installed with a 50" pitch, which is the same as the old QF Dreamtime seats. The reason they are very wide is because when reclines the passenger has to lie diagonally as the feet of the passenger behind end up in a cavity adjacent to the head of the passenger on front.

The photos are quite misleading in that it is not an exit row and yet there is a huge void of space in front of the seats shown, and the FA is very well positioned in the picture so you can't easily see how close the row behind is placed. So not sure how "open" the seat will feel when not at a bulkhead or exit row.

Now that does not detract from the fact that these are certainly the widest business class seats I have ever seen! Very impressive width indeed. But until I see them with another seat in front its difficult to know just what it will be like to use. Most people will find they are either only able to use one arm rest at a time or they will need an additional pillow to use as an arm rest.

But SQ are well known for delivering a top class product, and I have no doubt they will retain that reputation with this new cabin product.

Gadzooks that's wide!

But please excuse my more plebian interest... the economy seating is claimed to offer more leg/kneeroom. The main image certainly looks more like 35"+... it all seems so unlikely, having just endured SQ Y class PAR-MEL.

I also noticed something else odd. SQ claim that these seats will be available on 777-300ER services to Paris and Switzerland from late 2006. Their timetable shows 744's on those routes right through 2007...perhaps the timetable hasn't been updated, but I wish airlines were more accurate in their info.

I'm not sure about the pitch calculation but I contacted SQ and they told me its a fully flat bed with 198cm usable length when flat.

Anyway, it looks rather nice.

There is already a thread in the SQ forum (funny that).

The schedule was supposed to be updated today (Friday). Since I've been travelling (on SQ as it happens) I haven't been able to check if the schedule is now updated.

All going to plan I'll be able to report on the new product in late December, but I wouldn't be surprised if other AFFers (eg infoworks?) get to try it out sooner. First flight is early December.
