Looks like the SQ will once again make an appearance in MEL during the northern hemisphere summer period on the SQ 217/8 rotation, three days a week (Fri/Sat/Sun mornings ex-SIN and Fri/Sat/Sun nights ex-MEL)

As announced in routes online..

Singapore Airlines in Northern summer 2016 season once again plans to operate Airbus A380 aircraft on Singapore – Melbourne route, scheduled to operate from 24JUN16 to 03SEP16 (SIN departure). The A380 is scheduled to operate on SQ217/218 service, 3 times a week. The following is A380 operational schedule.
SQ217 SIN1045 – 2010MEL 388 567

SQ218 MEL0005 – 0600SIN 388 167

Does that mean they will have Premium Economy flying out of Melbourne??

It's quite non-SQ like to operate different aircraft on the same flight on different days of the week isn't it? It just causes confusion and frustration with pax.

Ah! I was surprised to see the A380 on both legs, but wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Just did a one-way Suites booking from here to London on points. So excited!

Won't affect me - I am so over SQ and their consistent delays with 380 I have switched to QF redpts in 2016 - hopefully I will score jb747 on some 93/94 runs.

Ok mrsmart / ok Tommy - youse guys caught me 'skylarkin' - if it's back on 218 I'll be sure to hitch one or two rides - 217 don't work for me on return unless I miss connection 237. Great news indeed - can't get enough R experiences - 218/802 to PEK gives me 2 sectors in R - gotta love that.

FTR: The bit about QF not entirely untrue - 93 on 14/09 and 94 on 04/10 - hopefully the 'legend' himself jb747 will be driving on one of those flts.

Ahh darn it's the red eye flight. Was hoping it would be one of the day flights. Was planning on booking MEL-CDG ret around end of Aug.
Seems like a waste for me to book 0005 dep ex-MEL and 0010 dep ex-SIN and just sleep all the way and not fully enjoy suites.

Had me in a panic for a moment there! But I just checked and our second flight is 0905 ex-SIN.

Mind you, I'm very much looking forward to the bed. What are you worried about missing out on?

Could always go through to LHR on the A380 using the red eye ex-MEL and the 9am ex-SIN and take a separate flight or train across to CDG ...

Yeah, woops, should have mentioned the flight #.
SQ238 ex-SIN is 0010 dep with 0730 arr.

Well, for myself, I'd prefer to be awake the majority of the hours if I'm going to be going F/R. Just want to make the most of the Dom/Krug ;) and other things that come with R/F, e.g. entertainment system, food etc.

I value each different component of suites just about equally, so spending the majority of the time sleeping would feel like a waste of points to me.

As I don't have an abundance of points and if I "had" to book a red eye flight i'd book either J or PE on points.

I actually hadn't thought of that.

My plan was to go Santorini and Venice then fly back to Paris for a friends wedding then fly home from CDG, hence all I thought about was MEL-CDG ret, but I guess booking 2 seperate o/w ticket would be better.

Currently looking now to all the a380 ports in EU, not much availabilities into EU at all. around Aug/Sept. May have to check flights out of SYD. Might have to just book what I can get, i.e. red eye.

Is it possible to book MEL-SYD-SIN-EU all on one ticket via SQ? e.g. codeshare with VA on the MEL-SYD leg? I read somewhere on here it has been done. Or did I misread?

Noticed that the change to A380 DID NOT happen for Jun-Sep.

However also noticed that current plans see the A380 back on 217/218 "permanently" (ie for now) from

Scheduled to fly on 10th November ex MEL on A380 bird. Am excited by the prospect of PE - J upgrade!

What do you mean? The A380 currently operates SQ217/218 x3 weekly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 24JUN - 03SEP.

It's happening right now!

Ooops, you are right, the day I was looking at was a Friday departure ex-MEL. It's technically Sat/Sun/Mon ex-MEL (the midnight flight).

From routesonline:

Not sure how accurate this routesonline reporting is? As noted in another thread A380 is already running this month (temporary) to cater for seasonal demand.

Some of those dates are a touch off too.

Side note, SYD-SIN has dropped to 1 A380 service
