I am trying to book for a trip to SFO from BNE next year using KF miles. I have enough miles for first class, but wondering if the difference between the two products is worth the extra miles? Unfortunately SQ don't operate A380 to SFO anymore so I have to settle with 77W. From picture alone, there doesn't seem much difference between F & J products on the 77W. I know the biggest difference is that in J you have to sleep diagonally as the foot cubby is on the opposite side of the head. However, I know if you can score a bulkhead seat, that is not a problem. I will be booking very far in advance (pretty much as soon as the award seat is released), so I should have no problem securing the bulkhead seat.

Does anyone have experience in both F & J on the 77W? Do you think it is worth the extra 30000 miles each way and the trouble of fly into Sydney from BNE for first class on 77W?

I did a product inspection on their new cabin configuration the other week and was very surprised by how small First was. I would still have to sleep diagonally in that seat, at 5ft 11" tall. I walked off thinking their 777 First was not worth the difference.

F is F - J is J - for Oz to USA it's a no brainer IMHO. I have done dozens of flts in both SQ F and J seats - there is a huge step up.

The F seats on 777 may not look that much bigger than J but they certainly are after you sit in each a few times.

Then of course their is F & B - again a big step up. If you haven't tried F then whatever you hear from me or the next person still is not going to mean all that much until you experience it yourself.

VAG I should have added if you have sufficient pts book an F out / J in and you will get to see diff first hand for far less than an arm and a leg.

I have to disagree slightly with CE.
I think there is little difference in seats if you score a J bulkhead and you are going to sleep most of the way. 77W F is only a little better than J in that respect. But in terms of the other aspects I there is a big step up. Wines for one! Caviar for two :)
As Cruiser says, go out F and back J and see for yourself!

May well be the case but bulkhead seats are the last seats I would ever choose - I just cannot bear the restricted closed in feeling of sitting in bulkhead and staring at a wall in front of me - albeit with a TV implanted there - as I have posted several times I am the biggest sticky beak of all time and love to survey as much of cabin as possible.

Any time I am in J I choose rear of cabin if poss - F in 2C / R in 3C - but we are all different.

Thanks for all your input. I guess the trend of all first "suite" is actually creating a closed space to give the extra privacy. But yes, everyone is different.

I have already tried out SQ J on A380 and I agree with most people that it just looks good but not that comfortable to sit. The recline is limited to I think about 125 deg then you have to flip the seat into bed mode. So to some extend, in the sitting mode, the A330 regional angle flat is more comfortable.

Does the F seat in 77W have the same problem, or is it more like the traditional F seat where you can keep reclining until it's fully flat?

Although I have enough KF points to even do both trip in F, I'm planning to have a stop over in Tokyo so I'm gonna use my LM to fly NH F, or buy AA miles and fly JL. So I can't really do one trip in F and the other in J.

I do have a trip coming up this May in SQ Suites so I'll have a first hand experience of first class service with SQ. But suite is another step up so can't compare that to 77W. I guess the soft products would be the same?

(Of course I have thought of this option, fly back from LAX instead of SFO, and fly in A380 suite all the way to SYD, with a stop over in NRT at extra SGD$100. But the itinerary gets ugly: SFO-LAX-NRT-SIN-SYD-BNE, with SFO-LAX/SYD-BNE on paid coach ticket)

New F 77w - Love it - It is bigger than J class 100% sure ( Picture was take 03 april 2015 , sq222 syd-sin ) and the plane only 1 week OLD !

There is no comparison! SQ F is a huge step up from SQ J. While an SQ J class seat may be 'acceptable' depending on the passenger... it's all the rest of the soft product offering that makes the difference.

Ah what a beauty bbqwer. Any more pics?

Some complain about those couch-like seats. Not me.

Main difference F and J class:
1. wider seat and more pitch
2. bigger LED TV
3. more storage area
4. more food

I dont have the J class picture. I can guarantee F class is wider and more comfy, It can fit 1 adult and infant easily ( you cant do this at J class ).

If you have enough point, its no brainer to choose J over F :p

nb: the 3rd picture, there was 2 adults sitting together watching TV. you can imagine how wide is the seat.
