I've been trawling the threads and have yet to find the complete answers so here goes:

I'm looking at booking SYD-SIN from the Australian QF site using a sale fare, which will not be eligible for Flight Upgrade Awards, then booking from SIN-LHR (using the QF Singapore site) to book a Red e-Deal/Super Saver, which throws my hat into the ring for a points upgrade.

I understand that unlike BKK, there should be no need for QF to sight my CC in SIN for this to occur?

Additionally am i able (or does it matter) to link the PNR of the bookings?

Should i ensure that i am on different metal on the bookings eg. QF5 to SIN then QF1 to LHR rather than QF1 all the way?

Am i missing something in my logic.... other than the need to read more threads?

Sorry about the newbie-esque questions.

If the CC warning does not appear at time of booking I don't think you need to worry about it.

If you are having an actual stop over in SIN then I wouldn't bother with linking/merging PNR.....however, if it's just hop off & hop back on - I definitely would if you are changing flight numbers.

If you break the journey at SIN on QF5 & then get back on QF1 you will earn more SC.

I've never been asked to present a CC for any air fare originating in Singapore.

10 more SCs per direction (ie 70 vs 60), so not a huge amount more. On the flipside, if booking same flight all the way through, definitely protected in case of delay to first flight! Whereas if QF5 was delayed and missed connections to QF1 or QF9 then there may be a 24 hour wait for the next flight, possibly at the passengers own expense.

And if you book a one way SYD-SIN (award or paid) and a SIN-SYD-SIN on the return you might be surprised in finding the difference in fares will pay for the overnight stay in SIN. Well at least it does for me -;) though I avoid the 4 and 5 * hotels.

This works if you fly somewhere via SIN more than once a year... Though QF would probably not appreciate that fact becoming widely known.

Happy wandering

Next time the OP or another member reading this thread maybe travelling in J or F.

Difference for J return trip = 80 SC

Difference for F return trip = 120 SC
