Split Tickets

If I book 2 x tpe-hkg-syd-hkg-tpe in J for me and the missus. Is it possible to split the itinerary into two separate tickets after the first sectors are flown, i.e. after reaching syd can I change the date on my ticket for an earlier return to tpe... leaving the missus in syd.

Does depend on the fare rules involved when you purchase the ticket. They will explain the ability (and cost) of changing dates. Some fares are 'companion' fares, and require both parties to fly the same flights - but Cathay doesn't really use this type of fare.

Just because two people are on the same itinerary doesn't mean they have to fly the same flights, although the online booking system on the Cathay site doesn't have that sort of flexibility to book online, and it would have to be booked through a travel agent or Cathay by phone.

The other option is to purchase the tickets separately and then assign seats next to each other on the flights (and perhaps get Cathay to link the two tickets).

It sounds like you have booked tickets with you and Mrs Somebol on the same PNR. Confirmation or denial of whether this assumption is correct may also be needed to give advice.

I have done this on a CX award (through QF) previously. We were booked on the same PNR and flights, but I had an emergency back in MEL requiring me to return earlier. Gave QF a ring and they split the ticket into two PNRs and re-booked my award flight to an earlier flight (without any charge). Thankfully, there still was award availability. QF did tell me that if there wasn't any availability, I would have to purchase a new ticket.

yes, I already made the booking online with cx.

The idea is to set off on a couple of solo MRs ex tpe, so just checking to see if splitting the pnr is an option

Yes it can definately be split before or after departure (excl. companion fares).

I'm sure if I can do it as an agent in around 20 seconds, the airline should be able to also do so easily enough for you.
