Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

finally the laksa has changed...the lounge dragons told me it should change every 2 weeks....

I’m disappointed the Sichuan mince is as disappointing as the Rendang…… agree, they missed adding any Sichuan, mine has spring onions and coriander in addition to your photo
It was on last week (see post #759). Your’s seems to be missing the chilies!

I pimped it only slightly with some extra sambal and pickled ginger but thought it was reasonably tasty.

As an aside, they seemed to have had a decent selection of self-serve options for lunch, as did the SYD J lounge on the way down.

The food offering in both SYD and MEL dom J lounges has improved.

The self serve options have been the same for the last 3 months, soups included. The mince was blond n bland, the noodles had no texture and the whole thing was pretty well tasteless. I know, 1st word problems (the cafe doesn’t even accept credit cards!)

Seppelt Drivers sparkling has been replaced- and I thought it could not get any worse……

What ToD?

Last week, right on noon, they had an interesting looking curry and two other items that looked reasonably substantial. I didn’t try them as I was happy with the noodles.

Yes, the veggie curry is interesting, variety more so. QF767 whY today, beef Randang…… I’m just lucky I guess

Just came back from a short holiday in Thailand and Malaysia and can definitely confirm that a lot of “Asian” cuisine does not go well with light coloured shirts. The same can be said about Spag Bol though, my life long T-shirt’s final boss…

And on the so-called “Sichuan” mince above: As a Sydneysider, I will never complain about the delicious lounge food in Melbourne and I remember this being tasty from a year or so back BUT the term “Sichuan” definitely gets over-used. Having been to Chengdu and surrounding areas twice now (great under-visited Chinese city btw. and not only because of the famous panda sanctuary), I can confirm that real Sichuan cuisine is very different from what we get it sold as. Much more spicy, oiley and- most importantly- numbing thanks to the special peppercorns or oil thereof.
