Congratulations on Qantas and Virgin Australia for hitting the jackpot next weekend, with an AFL Grand Final of Frementle and Brisbane, this is the dream that every Australian airline is wishing for.

This will mean tens of thousands of footy fans will be flying from Perth and Brisbane to Melbourne, in addition to school and university holidays, next weekend domestic flights will definitely be packed.

I have heard Qantas is introducing 19 x daily between Melbourne and Perth, and now we can only see 17 x daily between Brisbane and Melbourne.

I wonder if it is enough, or Qantas should scrap or downgauge some low demand services, such as QF7, 11, and 93 to leave A380 capacity between Melbourne and Brisbane, and Perth to service tens of thousands of footy fans decending onto Melbourne?

Note: Most flights between Brisbane and Melbourne are selling $888 one way, and most of Perth to Melbourne services are selling at $1834. Both prices are one way, Economy fares.

For reference, I booked my Sydney - Perth service on the same day for $1299 on Business Class.

Finally, let us wish all the best for NZ Warriors to get into the grand final, so that more A380s can be deployed onto AKL-SYD services on the Labour Day long weekend.

There is a few tricks if you go searching. For the Brisbane fans, SEQ into NSW then book the Victorian leg separately is another.

It’s the other way that’s tough as Sunday is busy ex Melbourne everywhere being holidays.
