Spare A380 engine sent in an Antonov to a stranded A380

Yesterday an Antonov freighter flight number ADB2291 ferried a spare engine from CDG-YYR (Goose Bay Canada) to replace an failed engine on AF066 A380 while operating CDG-LAX and diverting to YYR.

Engine is An Engine Alliance GP7000

As Goose Bay is not really setup as a commercial passenger airport, passengers reported being on board for 6hrs after landing

The uncontained engine failure occurred in Sept 20.

The spare engine was flown out on Nov 23.

I’m not sure AF is making enough money to keep an A380 on the ground for two months. Is there more to the story of why it’s taken so long to get the replacement engine there? Was there other damage to the airframe as well that needed to be repaired first?

According to this Reuters article, the broken engine was first transported to Wales for analysis by GE/P&W before the replacement would be flown to YYR. Damaged A380 to be flown to France to investigate engine blast

My guess is that GE/P&W will have to pay AF for the incident. I think RR paid lots of money to QF after the QF32 incident and grounding of the QF A380 fleet. ( at least AUD 100M Rolls-Royce to pay Qantas $100m for blast)

That image above makes me slightly uneasy. I know that they all got down safely and all but just imagining the utter fear during the landing with such a sight out of the window... Oh dear, oh dear

Might have taken this long to get all the companies talking to each other about who is paying for what.
