I will take it to the floor with you good folk.

Anyone used a TA for South American tours and we're happy with service and value?

Transfers. Important to use pre arranged pickups in say SCL and RIO? What constitutes good value from port to town?

I have been using Jenni Davis from Davis & James Travel Associates in Sydney for my upcoming trip. She knows SA really well and obviously works with all the wholesalers there.

She has been really good to deal with - and very passionate about SA.

We have used Robyn Bevan of Holiday World in Brighton. She has excellent local connections and also runs small group tours herself, so she is a great choice for South America (as well as most other places). Her number is 03 9596 8742 and her email is [email protected]

Avoid Natural Focus Tours / Safaris like the plague.

Would you like to say that again with emphasis RF? :p.

Basically, I've never used a TA for S America (only exception was going to Antarctica and I let the TA organise the Patagonia part first as part of the whole deal.) It was fine, but I could have done it easily as well.

I've only used pre-organised transfers in S America very occasionally. SCL can be a zoo for taxi drivers pouncing as you exit into the arrivals hall but I think you can now get a voucher at a desk before exiting. RF would have the latest on that.

SCL is not that far out of Santiago. Sometimes I've taken a cab, other times rented a car and at least once I have returned to SCL on the airport bus. Santiago is highly civilised. No dramas at all.

Long time since I've been to Rio, so can't really comment on that.
