Requested a points upgrade from Y to J, SYD - BKK for Dec 11 on QF 1. As a WP and from what I can see on EF my chances would be good.

On the QF website I see two itineraries for thursday.

Upgrade status: Waitlisted

and then just below

Status: Waitlisted
Upgrade status: Declined

A glitch in the system given we are more than 24 hours out? Anyone seen this before?

I have seen it before, i mentioned to somebody on the phone as i selected seats for another flight and they said my upgrade request was still in the system and had not been declined and as it happened i did get the upgrade.
I think your just seeing the same glitch i saw some months ago.

If it's clarity you want, view your reservation through checkmytrip.com. It will clearly show which sectors are confirmed and which are waitlisted. Generally it will show Economy - Confirmed and then another box with Business -Waitlisted. When the waitlist clears, the Economy box disappears and the Business one says (for a while) - cleared/confirmed from Waitlist before moving to Business - Confirmed.

I avoid viewing my reservation in Qantas during that crucial 24 hrs prior to departure.

CheckMyTrip is you friend!

I've seen it exactly as described; it's even more "scary" when you see:

Note: Your upgrade from Melbourne to Sydney has been declined.

Status: Confirmed

Upgrade status: Declined

Class: Business (U)...
The Business (U) is your actual confirmation, so don't worry.

Being an afternoon flight, keep observing your booking every so often this afternoon or early tomorrow morning; you should see some changes.

Indeed, your upgrade chances are quite good given what E/F is showing:

The fact that we disavow the QF reservation management system prior to boarding does not bode well for the fully integrated online reservatin and check in management process for 2009...

I had a similar experience this year requesting an upgrade from HKG to Melbourne (whY to J). Initially seemed to have been declined then discovered points taken off :o a few hours later. Later at check-in, found out had been upgraded:D.
Best of luck with your upgrade.

at -18 hours - For anyone interested in this mini-saga. A call to QF resulted in advice to ignore the declined message.

A look now on the web site shows 2 declined messages. I guess 1 for Premium Economy and the other for Business.

Checkmytrip shows the confirmed in Y and waitlisted Z and J. Hopefully in a few hours it will resolve - thanks for the advice.

at -10 hours : both declined notices gone but points all still there and no confirmation on QF. Checkmytrip shows me in 11k confirmed in business so it looks like I got it.

Yep got it - (upgrade to J seat 11K) - will do me just fine - thanks again to all

On my trip to Singapore last month i had the same advice on the computer , ie, declined for my F upgrade
Not really a problem but then i got paged in the F lounge where I was told that i had been upgraded on departure as the request had not gone through!

I still got to keep my 25 k points as well
